I had to leave a negative review due to the insufferable fan base that will pretend this is perfect.

Although this DLC mostly got rid of the worst things in the main game like shallow repeated content it still suffers from a fundamental flaw, the poor balance. It's both too hard in an unfair manner and too easy, the fact that it's too easy can be remedied by handicapping yourself while there's little you can do for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ parts other than force yourself to play a certain way.

You could still play and complete the DLC, but you probably won't feel like trying again, a first for me.

After defeating the final boss for a second time I can confidently say I hope they change course for any other souls game. The most disgusting aftertaste I've ever had, I used to celebrate defeating a boss after trying multiple times now it feels like I finally finished a chore. Terribly unfun.

Overall I'd consider this game better than the first, especially for a regular person that doesn't necesarrily have the time or the patience to endlessly tryhard the same things relying on way too much luck. It looks betters and is just more fun probably due to the fact that it feels like you're always progress and generally less management oriented aspects.

In terms of balance the game is mostly fair, giving you much more control in terms of preparation and reactions to make rng destroying a run a fairly rare occurence, maybe 1 out of 5 runs will be wrecked without you being able to really do anything. Thankfully the amount of permanent upgrades you can acquire mitigates but at least not for the first half of your time with the game.

There are 2 things that stand in the way of balance :

- The relationship system is still messed up either making your run a stomp or potentially ruining it, the main thing that comes to mind is the game forcing you to equip a skill when you have a bad relationship fire something that can literally ruin a run or at least make a character useless depending on the "build" your were going for, something that is made worse by certain areas or at least bosses having very specific weaknesses and strengths, which sometimes are randomized. Sadly trying to go jack of all trades in anticipation will also result in a fail as the game is just too hard for that and even when you plan appropriately the game might just say no for example by locking you out of melee attacks, thankfully this doesn't happen too often.

- Cultist enemies, or the end bosses feel straight out of DD 1, they are simply unfair and for a game that I'd say is generally easier the pain of these enemies might be even worse than just playing dd1 since you deal with unfair stuff all the time in that game.

2 more flaws come to mind :

- The variety offered is also lacking for the type of game this is, you're expected to do the same things over and over and although the game looks great there isn't enough variety to warrant the amount of retries it expects (I did play the beta so I might've spoiled this aspect for myself)

- The amount of time it takes to get the ball rolling again is simply too long, between the animations, cinematics and more I wish there was a faster way to get another run going.

Finally in terms of story and narrative I have to say I'm dissapointed they've decided to stick with the same people, the same general feel, additionally the main theme is supposed to be hope and you aren't expected to use your characters like in the first game, but the characters remain painfully unremarkable, worsened by the fact that you'll play hundreds of runs ruining that feel of renowned heroesz.

I can only find 2 reasons to not get this game over crusader kings 3, firstly the price, getting all of the dlc might cost too much but thanks to the game's age it should be easy enough to find deals, the only other issue is if you think the game is too deep for you which is totally valid (in which case you should definitely go for ck3).

Get the game if you like similar games but you will need at the very least 5 dlc's, it has satisfying depth and you can take it even further, the only issue is the possible cost of it all, thankfully it's old enough to find good deals for it all.

The game will soon reach the level of content it should've been released with, if you use mods you can reach that point yourself. Otherwise wait a year or two.

Game is simply too big and it has diluted the quality of everything found within, most bosses also left me with a sour aftertaste instead of the feeling of accomplishment you used to get, mostly due to how unfun they've become if not unfair.

Early Access Review
This game is nice if you like rpg filled with stat checks, the story didn't particularly interest me (Mostly because there wasn't much of it as of writing the review).

Compared to Age of decadence theres 2 problems :
Firstly the differrence between failure and success isn't as pronounced, in AoD if you failed you'd do horribly or in a humiliating manner, and when you suceeded it was almost always epic. In this game neither seems to happen very often.

Secondly due to the fact that you can have followers the only replayability comes from story choices, anything you might miss due to your stats can be filled by the companions, or at least that's how it felt in my playthrough with a social oriented character, these companions can be acquired super early and with them there's no fight you can really lose except if you force yourself to not reload saves or don't recruit them in the first place, it's the same for any other stat check.

Personnally I enjoyed this game and can't wait to play it in it's entirety, but if you're a number's autist, minimap and objective marker hating gamer or if you're the complete opposite this might not be for you but if you're in the middle you'll enjoy this.
(This review was written in early access when there was only 4-5 regions out of the twelve planned)
