If you like roguelike deckbuilders, you will probably like this game. The art is great, the Joker cards have all kinds of interesting references, and all of the game's systems interact with each other one way or another to provide seemingly-endless depth.

Summary: This game reeks of quality. Play it with a friend. Take your time: combat is tactical, and the story asks you listen rather than giving you a quest marker to rush at.

What this game does well, it does with gusto; its imperfections are few in number and mostly unimpactful.

This game starts by telling you: "Hey, you. Yeah, you. I ain't gonna make this easy, so you'd better remember the rules of real life while you're playing me."

Early in the game, the player is given multiple chances to be reminded that his choices are important and his options are limitless, showing him that he has to be precise and cautious about his decisions; something as simple as running past a guard can start a fight.

This is the defining factor of the game, and if it is one you can appreciate, you'd be cheating yourself of an experience by not playing this game. But there is something even more important than the incredible freedom that the game gives you to choose: choosing how--and with whom--to experience the game.

This game was built with co-op in mind--or, rather, it seems to have been built on the assumption that most of the game's playtime would be with a partner. That's the second most prominent attribute of this game; it is an incredible co-operative journey, and it can serve to "strengthen" and "renew" friendships as it provides countless hours of silly barrel-smashing, boss-exploding, ally-teleporting goodness. I was lucky to have someone amazing to experience it with, and I know it wouldn't have been the same without him.

Ultimately, it's a classic-style RPG, infused with more modern elements of graphical splendor, flashy abilities, biting humor, and highly interactive environments that make combat highly tactical. New skills allow you to manipulate the environments in new and exciting ways, making your character actually feel more impactful as you gain experience. It comes highly recommended to those with the patience and the mind for tactical combat, a zeal for character design and party building, the taste for quest backstory, and a friend who shares all of the above.
