300+ hr review: Okay, so, obviously I'm not going to play hundreds of hours od a game I hate. Is the community a little toxic at times? Sure. They are also pretty passionate about this game and for a reason. It's fun! It also is very refreshing from a lot of other shooters that just keep releasing the same basic game year after year with little to no changes. Does this have the most content? Well, it has a ton for more casual players who take their time. Even those grinding hard intentionally will get a ways. Get burned out? Take a break. The devs are adding new stuff all the time.

I do strongly advise players to join the discord and use the helldivers.io companion app, though. It will keep you in the loop about the actual galactic war and let you find info not readily available in games. Just avoid the drama and you're golden

Easily a favorite game of mine to play and chill too. Its gameloop and action aspects are enough to keep me alert but not to grow frustrated with. Aside from that, the music and characters are a great time with some warped humor and good vibes.

Also, the dev team is just cracked. They've got fun engagement with the community and have given two FREE major dlc updates so far that added a ton of content and extra playtime to the game. Its one of the few games where the paid DLC, I would 100% recommend purchasing for the cosmetics just to support this awesome team.

Flinched when I should have scurried.

Fun but painful.

Early Access Review
At its core, it very much embodies 'Hades meets JRPG and Monster Girls.' Honestly, that sounds great and fun,

As of right now, though... I can't say I recommend the game. Its very rough. Much of the content is untranslated and what is, is riddled with issues. The dialogue and many of the explanations are either unintelligible, or clunky and awkward. This is particularly problematic when going to do things like explore the upgrade systems, picking them, or selecting benefits in your runs through the dungeon.

Moving aside from just unpolished translation work... The combat system, while fast paced... Seems like it wants to be a casual adventure or RPG... which directly conflicts with the rogue-like elements. The music is all chill vibe music like you're playing Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing... And honestly, that pretty much matches the difficulty of most of the rooms in the run. In a run, I selected a dodge AoE blast and a proximity damaging skill.... and I beat every room just casually hopping around and killing everything without releasing a single attack.

That said, the difficulty for the bosses over-corrects into the opposite direction... The first boss himself began to throw an onslaught of attacks that did not let up and I couldn't effectively dodge, so I was just subjected to damage after damage til it killed me.... I would have thought that the dodge having no cooldown or limit on number of times you can use in a row was busted if it actually worked to be able to get out of the way of these attacks.

I suppose this all makes it good that you can just pump your HP pool through upgrades across repeat runs...

But that requires neither skill or truly engaging combat.. just turns you into a damage sponge.

Of course, its still not even in the 1.0 build/phase in its early-access, so I expect there will be more massive overhauls and improvements to come. I'll take a look back at it all and see if its improved after its gone through some more updates.

It's not the most complicated game and its not meant to be. It has a low entry-point, but you can modify the difficulty both easier and harder based on your preference. Their explanation in that menu they want the game to be able to be played by as many people as possible feels pretty true to intent there.

I 100% the game in one sitting on normal difficulty, about 4 hrs where I let the game idle while I did a few other things here and there.

Casual, but fun and humorous. Post-completion, there is an infinite dungeon sorta deal you can do too as a challenge sorta deal with little cosmetics. It's a bit harder than the base game with special monster buffs and all. Not exactly my cup of deal, but it was amusing for a couple runs through it.

I'd say its definitely worth a play, esp if you can get it on discount or in a bundle.

I'm not the biggest fan or rogue-likes or Souls-like games...

But this one is great. It's been excellent stress relief, it really sucks you in.

The music is great, the storylines are wonderful. I've put about 90 hrs in already between the early access and a fresh game, and I'm still not tired with it and haven't unlocked and done everything.

Challenging without being impossible. Plenty of change-up between each escape run to keep it from getting tedious. And the character interactions along the way are awesome.

My personal favorite of the Final Fantasy installments, I would recommend this to most anyone who is looking to take a foray into the JRPG genre, or even veterans of it. While aspects of the game have always been clunky and tedious (the Steal algorithm), the story and world has been one that I have always loved. The lore scattered throughout the world is in depth and the world itself is a fantastical beauty that I have always drawn inspiration from. The characters themselves are quirky but in a lovable way -- unlike the brooding cast from most other installments of Final Fantasy, or even most JRPGs, many of these characters are able to reach heights of emotional and humor in their actions in a perfect mix. Zidane, as a light-hearted charming rogue type, is hands down my favorite protagonist of the franchise.

The remastered version cleans up much of the graphics and helps this game run smoothly without need for emulation without changing the core of what it was -- and while the 'cheats' are built-in, some are disabled in certain boss combats, and others really are just a quality of life measure (like no random encounters when you have to keep running back and forth with Kupo Nuts or increased speed, for when you have to keep running back and forth with Kupo Nuts).
