Not optimizing a game is no big deal. Just put an AI upscaler in their game and POW!

Jokes aside, this remake is great but as a big fan of the original I have a lot to say about it so here's a TL;DR

Pros:
+ Beautiful graphics
+ Amazing atmosphere
+ Somewhat better combat
+ Great voice acting
+ New endings
+ Decent music

Cons:
- Terrible performance
- Maria's redesign
- Some cut content

Me yapping

Performance
First and foremost I want to get my frustration with this game's performance out of the way. This game runs like absolute garbage with terrible frame drops and stuttering everywhere., even if you have any of the upscalers on. This absolutely breaks the immersion and ruins the experience. Fortunately you can remedy this by changing the renderer from DX12 to DX11 but there is no menu option for this and you'll need to enter a launch command in order to do this. This game cemented my hatred for UE5 and the lack of optimization is the biggest fumble for this remake. Now on the flip side of this terrible engine, the game does in fact look amazing. The characters and the town of Silent Hill look beautiful I got lost exploring every street corner and room; art direction in the game is 10/10 hands down.

Original vs Remake
1. CUT/CHANGED CONTENT: Majority of the original is present in the remake with some nitpicks. My major one is why Bloober felt they needed to redesign Maria. Every other character looks the same and has the same outfits but not Maria. Why? Her original design looked better and fits her character more. Thankfully the community made good original outfit mods for her, just a shame Bloober changed it in the first place. Other than redesigns there is some minor cuts, like the unlockable Pyramid head great knife and hyper spray but thankfully the chainsaw remains.

2. GAMEPLAY: Combat and boss fights are improved over the original. Bosses actually fight back and the fights have more to them than just you blindly shooting the boss over and over. Most notable puzzles are back or have been reworked with some new ones introduced; some are painfully easy while others will make you think.

3. SOUNDTRACK/SOUND DESIGN: This is a bit weird. Parts of the game's soundtrack has been remade while the rest is the original. In my opinion I feel the original soundtrack is far superior and glad they kept some original tracks. Some songs do sound worse and sort of clash with the game, most notably the ''betrayal'' track heard near the end. Akira Yamaoka still did a fantastic job with the soundtrack and the sound design is still amazing compared to the original.

Final thoughts
I really wish Steam offered a neutral rating. While I do love this remake and I believe Bloober did a great job remaking one of most important games in the genre, the technical issues are just too big to ignore. If they plan on remaking anymore Silent Hills then I hope Bloober focuses more on optimizing their games or just flat out use a different engine. Seriously what is the point of using UE5 for graphics if we have to lower the visuals just to get a stable framerate? Makes no sense. Besides all that, this is a great horror game. I do recommend it but only on sale. Do not pay $70 please.

Best one out of all the Dark Picture anthology

Here's a rundown of the main cast and who should live and who should die.
SPOILER WARNING if you care about learning each character but honestly none of them are well written except for two.

1. Rachel: The absolute worst character and a total ♥♥♥♥♥. She left her husband after he suffered a life changing injury and fell into depression. Kill her off.
2. Eric: Still simps for Rachel and wears stupid sunglasses. I'm sorta indifferent to him so kill him or save him, who gives a ♥♥♥♥.
3. Nick: Rachel's next victim. He would be cool if he wasn't such a jealous, simping prick. BUT he does do some cool ballsy ♥♥♥♥ at the end. So try and keep him alive.
4. Jason: Jason is a true homie. Keep him alive.
5. Salim Just like Jason, Salim is a true homie and a badass. Keep him alive.

Fatal Frame 4 is a decent survival horror and recommend to any Japanese horror lover.

I love this game but Koei Tecmo completely botched this port.

I highly suggest just playing this on console or finding a way to acquire the PS3 rom and emulating it on RPCS3. Emulating it has all the multiplayer features, full game with all stages, and graphical features of the Soft engine. The only reason to play the Steam version is if you are looking to mod it.

Most authentic depiction of L.A. I have ever seen in a game.

Pros:
+ Beautiful graphics
+ Fantastic gore and pyshics
+ Fun gameplay
+ Decent music

Cons:
- Boring story
- Cringe characters with terrible dialog

Been to L.A. myself and wow did they portray it correctly in Dead Island 2. Everything from forest fires to shambling corpses eating eachother, Dead Island is the definitive L.A. simulator. The gore in the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome and no other game has come close to it.
