Early Access Review
New Blood Interactive strikes yet again with another great game.

Fallen Aces is a game with a rather simple premise- a comic book-styled boomer shooter beat-em-up, however, the interactions the player has with the weapons are fantastic. Beat someone over the head with an otherwise non-lethal beer bottle a few times? Now it's broken, and it becomes a lethal stabbing weapon! Break the baseball bat you used to knock a goon out with? Throw the splintery handle at the nearest person to get the most mileage out of it! Afraid that someone might wake up the guard you beat to a pulp? The ol' FOOT:tm: to the face has got you covered.

Yet, you might notice that I only have 3 hours in this game. This is because I do not think the content in the game right now is expansive or difficult enough for me to squeeze all the playtime I can out of it. It might be interesting throughout several different playthroughs for you, but it isn't for me. I can easily destroy any level now that I've explored every nook and cranny in the game. I can solidly recommend this game despite that, and I will recommend it even more once the full game is out!

Early Access Review
This game was released on Steam with Early Access on March 22, 2021. It has been 3 years and 3 months since that release. The Early Access panel states that the game would be in Early Access for approximately 2 years.

As of the March 2024 Update, the game is nowhere near completion.

As much as I would love to love this game, I cannot recommend it. Large problems are caused by every update, while the issues from the previous ones do not get fixed. The developer releases far too few updates, which are mostly inconsequential. In the current state of the game, the ten dollar price tag it fetches is unjustifiable.

Do NOT buy this game until the developer shows that he can make substantial, wide-sweeping improvements to the game within the next year or so.

If you want some alternatives to suit your war needs, here are some alternatives:

Ravenfield - Even though the base game does not fully meet the ideals of this game, you can certainly download some mods that do that and make it even better.

Call to Arms (and its independent expansion, Gates of Hell) - Although this game does not offer a full sandbox, even with mods, it offers the ability to directly control individual units through a first-person perspective (the first person mode was sadly ditched in the expansion! it still contains third-person and top-down control modes). It also includes Conquest (similar to Operations from Battlefield 1) and Skirmish (choose a faction and play against a bot) modes, which make it more geared to those who play to win.
