Not as good atmospherically as the first, but online interaction and gameplay have been smoothed out to allow better PvP and Coop play. The DLC really brings back the great level design of the first. And I would highly recommend purchasing those as well. Even though this game isn't as perfect as the first one was to me. It's still leauges better than most new games that came out at the same time. I highly recommend both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2.
