Not normally one to leave reviews but this game was such a breath of fresh air that I want to spread how good it feels to play it. After 10 hours playtime I've finished the main game and as I'm not one to go and hunt down every little chest to complete the game I consider it complete.
The trailer got me interested initially with the art style and music both being great. I played it on the spirit guide difficulty which felt right, fights with mobs in the world were challenging enough to keep it interesting while the bosses were difficult, with most taking several deaths to learn the different tells and to figure out the right tactics (looking at you woodsmith).
The platform mechanics are fun and engaging, it introduces enough variety and movement types/abilities to keep it fresh as your progress through each quest and the combat (outside of boss fights) increases as your power does to keep you from getting complacent.
The boss fights are where this really shines. Death will often come quick, but the checkpoint system works well, letting you jump straight back into the fight as you try and learn the timings of each boss. Several of the fights have different phases which remind me most of raid bosses from world of warcraft (in a good way) with lots of dodging, parrying, positional based damage avoidance, and to keep things interesting when you think you understand the fight, something changes and your forced to adapt to the next phase.

All in all, well worth the money I paid and will likely go back to play the New Game+ at some point in the next couple of months.

Great game that can turn on you in a second. Had a nice little village coming along when a fire broke out and burnt down half my homes, then a early snow destroyed my crops just in time to make most people homeless and starving for winter. Lost 60% of the population and still having fun.
