The Universe in a nutshell.

You won't get bored playing this game.
1st is because its a story rich, psychological thriller game. It's like watching a movie and playing a game at the same.
2nd is because of how he narrates everything he sees and feel during the gameplay. It feels like you are Alan Wake himself.
And since it feels like you are Alan Wake himself, you'll get absorbed to the game, you'll be Alan himself, you'll want to know what happened to your wife or what the hell is wrong with everything around you. it makes you curious.
3rd is having the light and darkness have a huge role on the gameplay. Focus your light to the enemies to make them vulnerable to your guns. Solve puzzles with the use of light.

So far its a great game to play. I would totally recommend this to anyone who loves horror and adventure.
