The very definition of the word "classic". There's a reason why this game is still receiving expansions 20 years after its original release, and even with not 1 but 2 sequels having being released,

Age of Empires 2 will always be my go to recommendation for people who are just starting off with RTS games. Compared to Starcraft, it is far more forgiving and less stressful. And even if you are not into multiplayer, there are nearly 40 campaigns (each with 5-6 missions) for you to try out. And they're some of the best in the genre.

As for the remake, it adds a ton of Quality of Life improvements and entirely redone graphics that stay true to the original artistic vision. If you have even a remote interest in Strategy games, you owe it to yourself to give this a shot.

And with the constant release of expansions, the content flow doesn't seem to end, and hopefully never will.

A FPS/RTS hybrid, the likes of which they're barely anything else similar to it. The development team has really gone a long way in remaking the assets. The new models and textures look absolutely fantastic. The game was gorgeous back in the day it first released, and with the redux, it absolutely stands the test of time and looks impressive even today.

The only complaint I have with the remaster is that the AI does act really wonky at times and hopefully the developers will address this in a later patch.

The game may showcase itself as Free to Play, but the true cost of playing it is your soul.

At least there are no ninjas on the moon that stealthily chop onions in your room.
