Picked this up on a whim, because while it looked janky, it also looked fun. It's definitely both!

The controls are a bit clunky, it's not hugely polished, but it's fun enough to keep me interested anyway. I keep getting distracted from the main quest, but the game doesn't mind that. The trailers show a jet pack, but I haven't got it yet. What I have got is a wonderful combination of low-brow and high-brow humor (the fast travel system is stinky outhouses that teleport you to the tavern bathroom, with TP stuck to your shoe; meanwhile you keep getting accosted by taxmen, who you can choose to kill, making you a tax farmer) that knows full well it's ridiculous, and does it in a spirit of making fun of the tropes of its genre without being mean-spirited.

Have you ever thought that battleships needed MORE GUNS? Do you enjoy watching slapstick routines with huge boats? This game could be for you! I've had a blast playing it so far, and I'm excited to see how it goes from here. Particularly loving just how much flexibility the ship painting bit gives me.

Until its recent 2.0 update, I would have and happily did recommend this game as a casual puzzle game. Sadly, the 2.0 update has made the play experience much less pleasurable; the options screen is a trashfire of style over usability; options to remove animated effects in menus are hidden in a text file in an obscure location; and the option to make the "within two hexes" hint radius into a high-contrast line instead of a low-contrast highlight appears to be gone without trace. The addition of a frankly ugly dark mode and an option for harder puzzles are nowhere near enough to make up for the loss of enjoyment this update has brought.

Yes, this game is entirely procedural generation, but it does have lovely visuals, and it's very good for relaxing with a podcast and a beer.

Fast-paced action gameplay, a good soundtrack, fun writing, and most importantly: HATS. I'm utterly terrible at this game, still love it, and highly recommend it.

This game is essentially Euro Truck Simulator 2, with a different map and different truck models. If you've played ETS2, you can jump into ATS with no real difficulty. The truck selection is very limited as of writing this review, only two Kenworths and one Peterbilt, but that's not a deal-breaker for me. Big changes from ETS2 include hazardous cargo categories that you can just pick and choose, and far more spread-out cities. You're likely to spend a lot more time bobtail than you would in ETS2. This is a very good game to play while you catch up on podcasts, audiobooks, or just to relax.

A word of advice: if you live in an area included in this game, resist the temptation to set up at your home. The map is simplified a lot in the name of gameplay, so anyone who actually knows Oakland will be very confused by the "Oakland" in this game.

Receiver is an excellent panic simulator. Initially, you'll be confused by the profusion of controls, but with practice, it gets easier. It never gets to the point of feeling invincible; you're always a single mistake away from death. This game is utterly without mercy, and you will inevitably die a lot. You'll get very bored with the tapes, too.

Receiver may be merciless, but it is fair. Your enemies are just as fragile as you are. With practice, you'll take them down easily - as long as you're cautious. For what it is, a procedural death labyrinth, Receiver is an interesting exploration of shooting mechanics.

This game is beautiful in every way. The art is gorgeous, the soundtrack is the best I've ever found in a game, the story is dragging me through it, and the gameplay is that wonderful blend of easy to learn, challenging to master. The narrator is an astounding achievement, and the only flaw I can find with this game is it's a little tricky to control with keyboard and mouse.

The bottom line is: you owe it to yourself to play this game.
