Trepang² simply is just an immensely competent, and highly fun to play and engaging game. 9.9/10 (Closest to a 10/10 game I have played in a long time, let alone at all.) Bladekisser DLC is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, GOATED.

The guns feel good, the movement is solid, the audio is nice, the visuals are great, and I really like how the AI engages with you, the game is very challenging and rarely feels like bullcrap when you die. I say rarely for one simple reason: I simply do not enjoy the combat training personally, it doesn't feel very fun to me, and quite commonly i feel like I died to bullcrap. Surprisingly though, the hacking side jobs which are immensely similar actually do feel like fun and i don't get that feeling of bullcrap with them. Also, raven exists and I love him and I want to sloppily make out with him.

(THIS REVIEW WAS MADE 2 DAYS AFTER EA LAUNCH, MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. I'LL PROBABLY UPDATE IT ONCE I GET AROUND TO IT :3)

(UPDATE 1: GUNHEAD UPDATE!!!!! YAY!!!! MY HOT GAY ROBOT BOYFRIEND IS IN THE GAME NOW!!!!!)

TL;DR This is the best game I have ever played within my entire life, my only complaints being that it runs like a paraplegic smeared in industrial grade lubricant trying to go up a near 90 degree slope with no extra gear (now its a 45 degree slope and they have arms after a few updates), and that the game most definitely still needs a LOT of work which makes sense considering it just released into early access. And that I both love the game's sense of style, and that I excitedly look forward to seeing the game grow to it's fullest potential. (Also gunhead is hot and I need them carnally.)

Done reading that TL;DR? Goodie! Now we can get into the real MEAT of why I love this game (and gunhead ouhhh i love gunhead...).

SECTION 1: GAME-PLAY BASICS
I'm more than sure you've heard all of the comparisons to tarkov, in the fact that it's a looter/exfil shooter. Overall I think the comparisons are decent enough but only on a surface level, the differences between this game and tarkov once you look past the very basics are like night and day. Overall I'd say the game plays more like stalker than tarkov, and according to my friend who's the world's biggest stalker fan: "its actually quite similar to stalker on the higher difficulties; specifically in the military bases and nearing the end of the game". So if you cant my word on it take their's! Be forewarned that as the game is in early access, the map geometry is a bit buggy sometimes and might mess with you, so don't take it personally and spam that space bar if you get stuck.

SECTION 2: DIFFICULTY
The game doesn't pull any punches, and that's something I really like about the game, personally. I like the fact that it forces you to sit the ♥♥♥♥ down, talk to your friend about whats going on and what you should do. Deciding your course of action, after-all; "Things can change at the drop of a casing." [3:51 on game-play overview trailer]. Also, I feel like the people complaining about the water system are misguided or complaining just to complain, it's very easy (at least for me, I'm sorry if it isn't so easy for you.) to get a bunch of water in only a couple of hours of game-play (like 3) to keep you rolling in-case you are busy and don't have the time to play for a long while. If you're really tied on time and don't think you'll be able to ever really invest any amount of time to amass water to safeguard yourself. What are you playing video games for, if you cant allot that amount of time into collecting water how can you invest any amount of time into any other game? Either way, there's a decently easy route in ashen mesa to collect water quickly if you insist on still playing. In less than an hour you can get nearly like, 5 days worth of water.

(Devs if you read this please don't fix it, I know it might go against the game-play philosophy a bit but i think it makes the game more enjoyable for others. Removing it just culls your fan-base, please do not remove it.)

SECTION 3: NON GAME-PLAY ASPECTS (LORE, ART, ET-CETERA)

The game has a just utterly IMMACULATE art style, every little nook and cranny of the game is just so beautiful, and i love every aspect of it. The maps look gorgeous and captivate me every time I play, I commonly find myself staring off into the distance seeing the far off set pieces, both in and out of bounds. The music captures the vibe of desolation and perseverance immaculately, I don't think i can put into words just how amazing this game's visuals are (even with the crust caused by dynamic resolution). And how often i find myself staring at things, enamored with their design. The character models feel like they're almost made of clay in some aspects, sculpted like a stop motion figure (which I think makes the comparison to Phil Tippet's "mad god" even better). Their models really make them feel human but not quite, as if contorted and distorted into a wretched visage of what makes us human. Altered in terms of proportion and general feel, nearly uncanny while still looking very appealing. And the design philosophy and actual designs of the factions show what makes them special, Europans look quite normal, and feel like a very western military, being a bit rugged and utilitarian. Euruskans look malformed, and contorted to fit a narrative, much like how they contort humans and use disgusting bio- mechanical abominations. Eurasians look clean, and sleek, with a dark core hidden underneath. Much like how the mega-corporation that controls Eurasia has a clean and sleek exterior, but an ugly and horrifying interior that turns humans into unthinking unfeeling cyborgs that carry out orders like robots while keeping some semblance of humanity. I do really hope that when the art book comes out they really expand more on the actual lore of the world. Some real reading material to really learn everything there is to about the world and it's setting.

I believe that the YouTuber "Riloe" covers this all a lot better in his reviews of the game, so if you want a more in depth and generally better written explanation of the game, go check his stuff out! And while you're there check out his other stuff! He's real cool, one of my new favorite essayists, he's also how I found out about this game and for that i am eternally grateful. :)

game's good

only 2 "major" issues really

1. gets a bit boring after you unlock everything
2. the big "highlight" of the game is both annoying since the narrator wont shut up about it (you can mute him which is nice), and not very rewarding imo. That might differ person to person, but i personally didnt feel very rewarded for doing it.

Overall pretty worth as it stands, its already pretty fun as an early access game and i look forward to when it gets updated more :)

this is one of those games where you wish you could just scrub your brain clean of all memories of it, just to experience the beauty and magic of it all again, even as someone who got spoiled on a lot of major elements it still managed to captivate me and send tingles all throughout my body at certain moments. i cannot recommend this game enough

this game is like doing heroin while killing people with hammers

the graphics despite how they appear to look like a roblox game are actually incredibly detailed and very pleasing during gameplay and make the game run VERY well

the gameplay is very tight and responsive, the movement is top notch and feels great

the guns, as a self proclaimed gun-nut, are Very nice. especially despite the fact they're low poly

and as a battlefield fan whos been wanting a game comparable to battlefield 4 from the series for a long time? playing this game for the first time nearly brought me to tears and had memories from when i was younger flooding in, i cannot reccomend this game enough.

this is unironically my first ever actual serious rating because of how amazing the game is. 11/10
