It has really evolved a lot since it's release and it's free now so there's no harm trying it. It might be very overwhelming with the stuff it throws at you but there's plenty off guides that shows the massive amount of stuff you can do to get the meta relevent weapons/items. And it has one the better communites i have seen (at least in PvE PvP can be a real diffrent story).
