Project Zomboid isn't an easy game but is still fun, with or without the hundreds of mods, sandbox mode lets you customize more freely, letting you control everything from zombie behavior to loot spawns, etc.
Mods make it even more enjoyable, allowing you to add a ton of stuff but setting up mods for multiplayer can be a bit of a hassle without mods to streamline it. Luckly the rest of setting up a private server is easy.

It's simply an incredible game. The story is compelling, the characters are both well-designed and well-written, and the dialogue advances the story without feeling forced. Overall, it has a great vibe. I played both season 1 and 2 on my phone then got it on Epic Games and completed the entire game, Seasons 1-4, which took me about 40 hours. I decided to get it on Steam as well, just so I could play it again with achievements, but honestly, that's just an excuse to experience it all over again. 10/10 game in my books and worth buying it almost 3 times.

I love this game but the reason I play it is usually because I'm offline and can't play with my friends. The fact that you can't play offline is the reason I don't have more hours or even finished the game

This is always my go to when I don't know what to play and the devs are really involved with the community which is awesome.
