I like a lot of things about this demo. The graphics are great. The combat is almost fun, but a little convoluted, and very very different from the original game. I don't like that you automatically lose camera control in fights, with the camera stick taking control of your sword stances instead. The directional attacks could work, but often I seem to find myself holding my sword in the right direction and still getting hit, so something definitely needs to be adjusted before the final release. And then, finally, everyone's biggest complaint -- the voice actor of the protagonist. The script he's given is trying to play him as a Nathan Drake sort of extroverted thinker, reasoning through things out loud and just sorta winging it wherever he goes, working with what he's got. Now, that's a fun character archetype, but this character is neither written nor performed charismatically enough for it to work. I understood him talking to himself a little bit while going down the lift in the beginning, and I understood him talking to himself out loud to deal with the fact that he almost died in the explosion, but he just keeps talking, with nobody around, in this dark dangerous prison camp he's just been thrown into, which he knows is run by convicts. And the things he says are too lighthearted for the situation he's in. He sounds almost like a self aware video game character sometimes. It's distracting enough that I don't know if I could sit through a whole game with this character. I much prefer the character in the original. He wasn't quite a silent protagonist -- you could have him say things. But you got to choose what he said at each point in the conversation where he talked. There are a few conversation options here, you sometimes get a few different questions you can ask a character, but for the most part, the conversations seem to go on mostly by themselves. More of an interactive movie, less of the constant immersion, freedom, and choice offered in the original game. I hope all the feedback is taken seriously by the developers in the full release.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite fighting game of all time. I really couldn't get into fighting games, having tried many, including Street Fighter and Soul Calibur. Tekken 7 changed all of that with its satisfying mixture of flow and strategy. It's easy to pick up and play, but there's a ton of depth behind each character if you're willing to learn. The story is interesting too, and the graphics are gorgeous. I've even been able to go back and enjoy previous Tekken games now that I "get" how the gameplay works in this series, and it's all thanks to Tekken 7's user friendly, beginner friendly presentation. Truly a 10/10 experience for me.

I love Shenmue, and I'm so happy to see it on Steam after so long. I especially appreciate that this release offers the option to play with the original Japanese voice acting. The ability to save anywhere is also a nice addition. However, there are some pretty nasty bugs that need to be addressed. BUT, even in its current state, the game isn't unplayable, and the devs have acknowledged most of the bugs. They've even already patched some of them. The game looks great upscaled to modern resolutions. And, yes, I know you can get a similar, and in some cases, less buggy version of this experience with emulators. But it's nice to see this as an official release. There are also some nice, clean new menus, and you can use the left stick to walk instead of the D-pad if you want, which is a pretty big improvement over the Dreamcast version in my opinion. The actual content of the game is untouched, as far as I can tell. And I wouldn't have it any other way! I recommend this game, I just hope the bugs get patched out soon.

As a Kickstarter backer for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, I got Curse of the Moon as a free bonus.

This game looks and sounds like Castlevania 3, but has a few modern touches. The character animations have more frames than you'd typically find on the NES, and there are all sorts of parallax scrolling backgrounds. The gameplay is a cross between Castlevania 3 and Rondo of Blood, since there are sometimes several paths through levels. I'm on stage 4 right now, and it seems like there are going to be 6. But I hope there are more! I hope I'm mistaken, because this game is a treat. It's on par with Shovel Knight.

What can I say about Shovel Knight that hasn't already been said? It's the greatest NES game ever made, 30 years after the fact. If you grew up with a Nintendo, this game is sure to bring a tear of joy to your eye.

I was seriously overwhelmed with emotion when I loaded this game up for the first time. Who would have thought a game like this could be made today, and that it would be received so well? It just goes to show that these game concepts are timeless.

Whether you're an aging Nintendo kid or, well, just a kid, you should try Shovel Knight.

Having played all of the previous Elder Scrolls games in the main series, I can say truthfully that this one is very good. Perhaps fueled in part by nostalgia, I have a fierce love for Morrowind -- it holds a place in my heart that Skyrim could never hope to reach. However, for the most part, the gameplay in Skyrim is brilliant. The elimination of the class system adds a new layer of freedom to the already freeform Elder Scrolls formula. The action-based combat introduced in Oblivion is expanded upon here: the introduction of a shield-bash mechanic allows the player to interrupt enemy attacks, and a new dual wield mechanic allows the player to control each of his hands separately (allowing, say, for an axe in one hand and a mace in the other, or a sword in one hand and a healing spell in the other, or a healing spell in one hand and a fire spell in the other -- however, I don't think you can equip two shields). Also, Skyrim is gigantic. Not Daggerfall big, but easily bigger than Morrowind or Oblivion. The graphics are beautiful, and even without a ton of fancy hardware, the game looks and runs great.

However, the complete removal of player-NPC relationships from this game feels like a step backwards. In Morrowind, NPCs would react to you differently depending on who you were, what you'd done, and especially how you spoke to them. Even Oblivion tracked how much each NPC liked you. That's all completely gone in Skyrim. Any player can do any quest, (almost) regardless of prior activity in the world (with one exception). And, while this is rarely truly immersion breaking, it can force a roleplayer to come up with some pretty convoluted explanations for why he's being treated so well by people who should hate him.

If you're looking for an open-world, fantasy action RPG, this is probably the one to go for. Unless you've never played Morrowind. You know what? Play both.
