It's a great game, if not flawed in many ways. You need the crapload of DLCs they've released to really enjoy it at its maximum potential, but just find a time when it's all on sale and buy it as a bundle.

As far as stability goes, the code is held together by duct tape and paper tubes. As such, expect weird bugs, random crashes, infinite loading screens, glaring multiplayer desync, and whatever other random BS this game has to offer at any given point - especially when running certain mods, if you care about those. (As it turns out, jerry-rigging a first-person shooter with an engine made for a racing game[en.wikipedia.org] doesn't typically work out too well. Perhaps in a grand twist of irony, the driving mechanics, which are fortunately scarce, are among the worst that this game has to offer.)

But aside from that, the game offers a plethora of weapons across many different categories, each with various customization options. You also have access to five different skill trees (each with three different "subtrees"), and a whopping 23 different perk decks, both of which can help you create and refine your ideal playstyle. All of it can be a bit overwhelming to comprehend at once, but it's really fun to assemble builds when you start to understand how everything works in conjunction with each other. If you really want to spice up your gameplay, you can save multiple different builds (up to 30, when you have all the slots unlocked) to suit different purposes. From stealth to loud, from tank to mobility, from DPS to support, there's many different options for you, and all the slots you could ask for to experiment with different playstyles, abilities, and weapons.

The game offers 84 different heists, 7 difficulties to choose between (ironically, the difficulties "Normal," "Hard," and "Very Hard" are the three easiest in the game), and you can play either in singleplayer with AI teammates, or on a team with up to 4 players. Some heists can be played in stealth or loud, others can only be played in loud. A select few are stealth-only. Each map has a plethora of variations determined by RNG - things like events during the heist, map layout, preset enemy spawns, objectives, loot (how much is available, what kind of loot, and where you can find it), and more. This makes for a semi-unique experience even when returning to heists you've played before, giving the game some much-needed replay value.

Overall, the game can certainly feel like a bit of a grind. Its flaws stick out like a sore thumb sometimes, and can be downright frustrating to deal with, to say the least. You need a ton of DLC to enjoy it at its fullest. But despite that, it's still a fun experience. And honestly, it's still better than its successor Payday 3.

P.S.: Guys, the thermal drill. Go get it.
