jack of all traits master of none at its worst, everything it can do is done better by everyone else.
crowd control? shock mine arbitrator or smite Psyker, Melee frenzy? zealot, ranged domination? veteran. hivescum excels at DOT (damage over time) sure but by the time that one target is dead, the zealot will have killed 4 of them.

the "Cartel special" is the only thing that makes hivescum special, as even its arsenal leaves much to be desired as its 6 unique weapons which are 3 melee (with 2 versions of the shivs), 3 ranged, and they dont feel too fun or good to use and the hivescum's options of pre-existing weapons is very shallow.

if you want to excel with hivescum, you have to put in more effort then every other class, hivescum feels so rough that i think fatshark literally just released a rough version of the class rather then the finished product.

Go spend money elsewhere

Early Access Review
Don't let the hate mob make you think this game is bad. the writing is amazing and genuinely off-putting, i don't usually play psychological horror games but i loved this. a Story about Unhealthy sibling co-dependency taken to its unhealthy limits, demonic deals and characters written to be bad people.

Don't let them tell you its just an incest game, as its not. (the incest in question never even happened, its just a vision of a potential future the game asks you 4 time about if you're sure you wanna do it)

The community can be another thing all together, i chose to stay way from them and enjoy the (currently existing) story for what it is.

If you like psychological horror via social taboos, then give it a shot, its dirt cheap so you wont be missing much and if you still don't like it then you can just refund it as the game is not insanely long.

one last note: understanding the story and characters does require the ability to comprehend and process sub-surface writing.

What's there to say except that this game is phenomenal. The writing is top-notch. Playing this while having the same 2 friends watching along every week really enhanced my experience. Puts me back to when i was just trying telltale games like Batman and MC:Story-mode. i could say more but i won't.

All i will say is that this game is Absolute Cinema and Deserves the praise being sung.

not much to say, game feels mediocre, balancing is pretty sh#t after heresy, biggest letdown was havoc. go spend 40+ bucks on a game actually worth it.

Forced Multiplayer game but absolutely no crossplay, absolutely stupid.

I am 1 of 3 people in my entire 20+ social circle who actually has a pc that can run nightreign. everyone else is playing on consoles, yet because fromsoft is beyond braindead when it comes to functional multiplayer, they didnt add any form of crossplay. with Fromsoft's usual games it makes sense that it doesn't need crossplay as much, but forced multiplayer is practically required to have crossplay nowadays.

Edit: Even months after launch, still no crossplay, instability issues have not gotten fixed, constant crashes, frame drops at high stress moments. im beginning to believe fromsoft isnt actually that good at making games, but masks their horrible balancing and performance issues with the guise of "being difficult" to get away with said issues

Allow me to paint you a picture: I come home from work to see Rivals finally finishes installing, i hop in to see what the hype is all about, try out some heroes in the practice range, dont really click with any of them but deal with it. then i go into quickplay to actually play, INSTANTLY get put in sweat lobbies literally 1st match EVER and get curbstomped, after a few matches of this i realize ive had enough and just chose to have fun fighting AI, gets boring, go back to playing aganst players and get curb stomped again. Grit my teeth and just deal with it for countless matches, get one good match where its fair, then RIGHT back to getting my SH#T pushed in.

Heroes i played (for atleast an hour) before deciding to uninstall: Hulk, Venom, Peni Parker, Moon Knight, Iron man, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Mantis, C&D and Jeff. tried others, none really felt fun, and even these ones felt lackluster. nothing i did felt like it make a sufficient impact, even landing a 1 shot headshot as hawkeye felt underwhelming. only thing getting close to feeling good was Ironman's ult and even that didnt fully hit the spot.

The Heroes feel extremely underwhelming, The matchmaking is god awful for both casual AND competitive with putting you against people extremely high above your skill to then give you 1 good match and then instantly course correct back to shoveling excrement, and the community GOD THE COMMUNITY, they need to learn to F###ing relax, ITS CASUAL, WHY ARE YOU SWEATING AND THROWING OUT SLURS IN CASUAL.

Edit: a year later and abt 20 more hours, its gotten even worse. its not worth any of the filesize or money spent on bandwidth. Net-ease please take your trash-tier game back to 2015 where teamshooters belong alongside Battle Royales

played some story, played some pvp with friends. general feeling: Absolute dog####.

Controls feel way too janky and at sometimes flat out unresponsive, half the mechanics arent even explained to you in either a simple or conclusive way, and when you finally do figure something out it just doesnt work half the ####### time.

Frame perfect inputs while having piss poor input recognition AND me feeling a full 2 second delay WHILE BEING FULLY WIRED ON EVERYTHING CONNECTING TO A DUDE LITERALLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME is absurd.

The devs have done ab absolutely horrible job making this game, and the majority of its audience dont even see its flaws through their insanely thick rose tinted glasses of nostalgia.

i bought this game, hated nearly every second of it, refunded it, friends vehemently tried convincing me to give it another shot, purchased it AGAIN to make them shut up, still hated every god forsaken second of it.

10/10 would summon goat milf again.

Joke aside, good game. Im gonna go into spoilers for this as to give a proper review, otherwise i feel like i'd be skewing it and basically gutting almost if not all of my points.

Interesting story/narrative, even if each episode gets progressively shorter and shorter making thus making the game feel quite shallow in the latter half (but that could also be due to the player getting a grasp on the game). to extend the game this could obviously be done via either adding more to the latter half of the game or adding more chapters following someone else (maybe Buck's backstory) but i get im practically asking for another game.

and even though i finished the game twice and got all the trophies in doing so all within a week of release and havent played since, the game is still stuck on my mind, meaning whatever you did, you did good if you got players to think about it for a week (if not more) after they stopped playing.

The 360 Degree movement throughout the house although feeling a little weird at times has led to some interesting scenarios, both good and bad. (example cases being flawlessly juking billie consistantly in Chapter 2, and basically being boxed in by cultists and being forced to reload a save 2 checkpoints prior to where i was in Chapter 1)

Voice Actor choice was Supreme, Justice Washington (Otherwise known as Seigi.VA on places like YouTube and Twitter) as the main antagonist shocked me quite alot as i used to watch his content, suddenly hearing him made me go "Wait a minute, is that who i think it is?" and it turns out it was. ofcourse Everyone did great in their roles, especially Kirsten Candelore as Rhok'zan. but i chose to mainly mention Justice primarily due to my personal reaction to it.

The neat little callbacks for returning players is also really nice. Nyalathotep- i mean Aunty Nyan Nyan returning (albeit for a short moment) was cool, Ln'eta and Estir showing up after the credits alongside their original VAs was also really nice.

TL;DR = Neat story if not a smidge short, got my brain stuck thinking about it a week after done playing, New navigation system is cool albeit a bit rough around the edges, Good VA cast with some suprising yet welcome people voicing, Neat callbacks for returning players.

If you wanna play something thats got Horror elements as a core part of the game but wont scare you half to death while also being somewhat wholesome in some parts, then i'd say pick it up. its not that expensive so if you regret buying it, atleast you didnt lose much.

The game praises itself for its "grunt fantasy" and "realism", prioritizing both of these over fun most of the time.
Having played from the start (like a week or so after launch ircc) ive seen the game go through so many changes it almost feels unrecognizable.

The “realism” is a straight up lie that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.

Arrowhead gave a 5 tonne Bug with Acidic stomach acid, replaced said acid with Flammable Bile, and gave it wings that don't lose their lift when they're nothing but bones. They gave us literal intergalactic, if not, interdimensional travel ON A BACKPACK. Not being able to get on high ground nor deploy statagems there.
They still let Enemies phase through walls and other solid objects, Pelicans can drop off a mech in seconds, but extractions take multiple minutes despite being supposedly the same distance. ALL OF IT is unrealistic as hell.

AH has their own ‘vision’ for the game, and time after time they put it ahead of the player experience and enjoyment.
Their dumb vision isn't "realism", it's torture porn. And it's annoying, they should've made seaf-divers if they wanted a grunt fantasy.

The community has proposed solution after solution and they keep giving us monkey’s paw balancing.
speaking of balancing, Arrowhead’s only strategy so far is to “increase difficulty” by buffing enemies to an unplayable degree while not buffing (or even nerfing) the player’s abilities. The ragdoll physics coupled with the full second of following paralysis, the inability to climb/utilize high ground, the awful visibility, the spammed hiveguard bugs, the issue with reloading, the rupture strain, i could go on and on.

Now i could go on another tirade regarding the performance issues but there are already alot of people doing that, go read those if you're looking for those.

Go spend 40+ bucks somewhere else which actually deserves it, this game is worth 20 bucks at most, especially in its current state.
