Start Baldur's Gate, spend an hour and a half just creating my character. Make badass tough male barbarian, get past the prologue and start exploring. Travel for a couple of days in-game, come across a couple of Ogres and fight to the death, lose 2 party members. Find a couple of magical belts *score*. Try on the first one *Cold Resistance*, awesome. Try on the other belt, *badass male barbarian becomes a badass female barbarian*. Well ♥♥♥♥.... Figure I'll make do with it, and keep travelling. Come across another female character who approaches me wanting to test her strength and skill and that I should select someone out of my party to fight her 1v1. Move other party members and send in badass barbarian chick "A woman is not a good enough test for me" and then she walks off...

10/10 would tell to go ♥♥♥♥ herself again.

First off, I ask that anyone who agrees with my review or likes it, please up vote it to help combat the people who're posting negative reviews and downvoting positive reviews to give the game a bad reputation for reasons that have nothing to do with Gameplay.

If you enjoy Zombie Survival Immersion, State of Decay is the game for you.
State of Decay is a Zombie Survival game that focuses on community building and management rather than pure Zombie Apocalypse Horror. You will have a group of survivors and a Home that you must defend and manage. You have to scavenge for resources such as Food, Medicine, Ammo Caches, Construction Materials, and Fuel. But you have to decide, "am I going to be quiet and take my time searching, or am I going to search really quickly and risk alerting every Zombie in the area that I'm in this house!", believe me, this can lead to many quick and painful deaths, which is only amplified by the fact that this game uses a perma-death system. If you die, then that survivor is dead, they aren't coming back. If you have more survivors back at home, then you can continue playing as one of them, but you won't be bringing back that dead survivor in any way.
State of Decay is much more of a casual game that you can sit back and enjoy your Zombie Apocalypse with a few heart pumping moments like when you run out of stamina in the middle of a fight you can't run from.

I personally enjoy this game because it has a higher level of immersion than most Zombie Survival games these days. The fact that it is free-roam while maintaining a linear progression so as to keep you moving, only adds to my enjoyment.
The survivors have their own quirky little comments that can give you a giggle or even a facepalm moment for how much a survivors comment can annoy the hell out of you. It brings to life the fact that each survivor really has their own personality and brings something new to the community.
Beware, vehicles can and WILL be damaged to the point of explosion. And if that happens, RUN FOREST, RUN! Because that particular big bang, will bring the hordes running for a free happy meal.

In the main campaign, you start off up north in the woods, I like to call it Camping Central or Ranger Town. You're rather clueless as to what's happening because you've been outside of news broadcasts and such while out camping. You then proceed to the Ranger Station and things start to become clearer as you go, you will meet new people, and have to decide how to work with them. I'm trying to avoid too much info to avoid spoilers. After you get through the basic intro, you will be at a church with your group of survivors. You must protect them, the church and scavenge for supplies. After some time, it becomes your responsibility to move to a safer location, and eventually, leave the town to complete the campaign.

In the Breakdown DLC, you're in the same town/map as in the main campaign. Only with a bit more freedom as the main campaign missions have been removed. You start in the middle of nowhere and get given the choice on how to proceed, you can start a new community as a single survivor, or you can join one of three communities that are available from the get go. Items no longer respawn in buildings once you've scavenged them (not like they do in the main campaign). And this time when you leave town, you start all over again, so be prepared for it. Because each level of Breakdown, while there's a better chance for better loot, will also increase the spawn rate of Zombies and Special Zombies. Making it harder as you go along. Giving you more replayability to scratch your Zombie Survival Simulator itch.

In Lifeline, you take on the role of a group of soldiers that are trying to recover a means to combat the virus (very Resident Evil like if you ask me). You will be on a new map made up mostly of highways to get you around the map faster due to the lengthy distance for each objective. This DLC is rather fun to play once you've put a bit of time into the main Campaign and Breakdown DLC, it gives you some variety and new storyline and characters to follow.

Each character in this game has their own personality, this has only been improved upon with the Year One Survival Edition.
What YOSE has brought to the table is some old bug fixes for this GOTY-like release plus many other improvements such as:
29 new melee weapons
29 new firearms
Cleo Military Supply Drop Missions
55 vehicles (34 in original breakdown/lifeline)
8,275 new audio lines
30 minutes new music

This is not to mention the higher resolution availability for YOSE compared to the Original SoD.

But the bottom line is, if you're looking for a full blown, balls-to-the-wall action game, State of Decay isn't what you're looking for. I suggest you go and play Killing Floor (Killing Floor 2 is now released as Early Access) or something similar.
