Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS:GO for short, is an online first-person shooter game developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series. It was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in August 2012, while the Linux version was released in 2014. The name of the game on the Steam store was changed to Counter-Strike 2 on September 27, 2023, with the transition to the Source 2 game engine. Although Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remained inaccessible for a short time after the game engine update, the version before the update was later added to the "betas" section of the game.

The game focuses on a team called terrorists and counter-terrorists. Both sides are tasked with destroying each other and completing separate objectives at the same time. Depending on the game mode, terrorists must either plant the bomb or defend the hostages; while counter-terrorists must either prevent the bomb from being planted, defuse the bomb or rescue the hostages. There are nine game modes, all with different features specific to the mode. The game also features matchmaking support, allowing players to play on dedicated Valve servers, as well as allowing community members to host their own servers with custom maps and game modes. Danger Zone, a battle royale game mode, was introduced in December 2018.

In December 2018, Valve made CS:GO completely free to play, focusing on revenue from cosmetic items, with various updates introduced over time, but the latest update lacks the free game's ranks, levels, inventory, ranking system, and many other features.[1]

Gameplay
Like previous games in the series, Global Offensive is an objective-based multiplayer first-person shooter. Players first choose either the terrorists or the counter-terrorists to complete objectives or destroy the enemy team. For example, in demolition maps (de_), the terrorists attempt to plant a bomb, while the counter-terrorists attempt to prevent the bomb from being planted or to defuse the planted bomb. In addition to the missions in previous games, a mode called arms race has been added to Global Offensive, and with this mode, different maps have been added to the game in addition to the classic Counter-Strike maps.[2]

As in previous games, a round ends with the completion of the missions or the destruction of the enemy team, and a new round begins. Players who die before the round ends must wait for the round to end in order to revive. Players can buy weapons and equipment with the money they will receive according to their performance in the previous round.

Game modes
The main game modes of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are as follows:

Classic and Competitive
Consists of bomb disposal and hostage rescue scenarios. At the beginning of each round, players are given money earned through various actions. The anti-terrorist team must rescue the hostages in the terrorist area and bring them to their own area. The terrorists must prevent the counter-terrorist team from rescuing the hostages. If the terrorists harm the hostages, they are fined.

•Competitive: It is a mode played with two teams of 5 players, each with players of the same or similar rank to their own rank. It is divided into two as long and short matches, and matches can be played in classic (15) or short (9) rounds as in comrade, depending on the player's choice. The team that wins 30 rounds from both sides or reaches the first 16th round wins the game. It is the mode that gives the most level points. The player's rank increases as a result of long-term winning, while the player's rank decreases as a result of long-term defeat. After entering this mode, it cannot be exited until the game is over. In case of exiting, the player encounters a ban system called 'Competitive Cooldown' for a certain period of time and cannot enter competitive matches until the penalty is over. The player who hits his teammates many times is also expelled from the game and is subject to this penalty.

•Classic (Simple Fun): It is a lighter version of the competitive match. This mode can be entered or exited at any time. It is played in two teams of up to 10 people. The team that wins 8 rounds wins the game. The prize money given at the end of the round is higher than in competitive matches, and the bulletproof vest equipment is automatically provided by the game.

Bomb disposal scenario
Terrorists must plant the C4 explosive in one of the two bomb sites (A and B) and protect it until it explodes; Counter-Terrorists must protect the bomb sites or destroy the planted bomb before it explodes. If the bomb can be destroyed, it does not matter how many terrorists survive.[3]

Hostage rescue scenario
Counter-Terrorists must rescue the hostages from the terrorists and deliver them to the rescue point; Terrorists must prevent the hostages from being kidnapped. If terrorists or counter-terrorists try to kill the hostage, they are subject to a very heavy fine. The rules have changed with subsequent updates. Counter-Terrorists must only rescue one hostage
