Early Access Review
This game is the definition of ”fun”. It’s easy enough not to be frustratingly annoying and just difficult enough to be worth the challenge. It’s well balanced!

PROS:
- Overall visuals? Excellent.
- Soundtrack? Pretty damn awesome.
- Gameplay? Lots and lots of variety. This includes enemies, abilities, enemy attack patterns, and things I’ve probably missed because there’s so many I’ve yet to actually to find.
- If it wasn’t obvious yet, you bet I’m sinking more hours into it.

NEUTRAL:
Story? Yes, there is one. No, I wouldn’t consider it to be “story heavy”. Don’t get me wrong, the story is rich, sure. (No spoilers here; go and read the last section of the early access notes by the dev to get an idea).

With that said, the gameplay is so damn good I forget there’s actually story being told.

CONS:
- Not a fan of the default controls, but you can remap them. So, this isn’t a real downside.

Side note: The title reminds of me of a game called It came from space and ate our brains. Both really fun games. Just super long titles.

FINAL SCORE: 77/100

The writing is very weak. I counted 36 grammar errors, 3 spelling mistakes and 1 format error in this 6-hour long VN. Not worth the headache of getting through it. Yumi at least seemed to be an interesting character.

PROS:
- The ACTUAL artwork is actually decent. You know, the ones the show on the Steam page. Too bad the rest of the VN contains “real life” pictures which doesn’t always match the narrative of the story. I mean, one second it shows that you’re in New York, then a jump later, you’re in London. It is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in any VN.
- Yumi’s introduction at the very end of Chapter 6 was decently written. Her portion of the story is short, but good.

NEUTRAL:
- The soundtrack is average at best. The sound effects though? Not a big fan. They were quite repetitive and annoying sometimes.
- The story. It’s very basic. Interesting at times, especially towards the end. However, many of the scenes feel like they’re dragged out as long as possible…for no good reason other than to add more text to read.

CONS:
- For a 6-hour long VN. It’s unacceptable that I managed to count 36 grammar errors, 3 spelling mistakes and 1 format error. This is something I would expect for a 150 – 200-hour long VN in read time, but not for something this short.
- You know the “real life” pictures I mentioned above? I really don’t like it how they seemed like an afterthought. It’s almost as if they either ran out of actual art and decided to release an incomplete product or hope people wouldn’t notice. C’mon guys, put some real art in there!

Now for some minor issues:
- Some of the text will show up below the controls on the bottom right (they’re still readable, but this shouldn’t happen)
- Some of the text isn’t centered. Again, the text is still readable, but why are some of them off-centre?

FINAL SCORE: 56/100

Here it is, the final answer arc. All your questions answered. Hanyū is a lot more involved this time around.

Graphics: 7/10
They kept it very consistent throughout the series, only adding necessary characters when needed and we got a few of them in this chapter. You get to see a lot more Satoshi and Hanyū poses. And yes, Hanyū is even more adorable in this series.

Storyline: 8/10
This is where the ‘true’ end lies. The canon chapter, if you will. Just like the previous chapter, a lot of questions are revealed to you in this chapter as well as defeating June 1983. If you were itching for more after chapter 7, then this is basically a must read. It’s essentially feels like chapter 7 part 2. I won’t spoil what happens, but Hanyū becomes a lot more active in this story which helps in solving the mysteries of June 1983. It’s a great chapter to end such an amazing series…even if it did feel a little silly at times.

Soundtrack: 8.5/10
Many more new soundtracks added, yay! They felt very refreshing to hear and none sounded out of place. Also, you do get to hear a couple of the old tracks too, so that’s nice.

Gameplay: 8/10
A new gameplay element is the fragment connection which will most likely take up a few hours complete, it’s quite fun. I supposed they made it this way as the fragments felt more like mini stories rather than full chapters.

Apart from that, there were a lot more spelling and grammar mistakes in this chapter compared to others for some reason (7 in total). This probably had the most errors in the whole series.

Value: 10/10
There’s a good chance you’ve already bought the VN if you picked up the first seven, but if you haven’t, this is worth it! In fact, it’s safe to pick up the whole bundle at this point and enjoy the whole series, if for some reason this is the first review of mine, you’re reading.

Definitely the weakest of the chapters in the series in the story department, but also the most exciting answer arc thus far. You finally find out the answer behind the ‘curse’.

Graphics: 7/10
It’s not that different from the previous chapters, but they have added a few more background images we haven’t seen before and we also get to see Hanyū for the first time (and she looks adorable btw).

Storyline: 7.5/10
In contrast to the previous chapter, the ending for this chapter was wonderful. I really like the pacing, as well as the answers given. This really felt like the true answer book or the last few pages in a mystery novel where everything is revealed to you. Although, apart from that, I also think this is the weakest chapter in the series as a lot of the time it was about ‘believing in friends’ to solve a problem, which I thought was a little tacky. Nonetheless, it’s a good chapter overall, especially as an answer arc.

Soundtrack: 8/10
They’ve added more soundtrack to enjoy, and they were good ones too! A high point for sure. I do miss a couple of the old ones though, but hey…new soundtracks!

Gameplay: 7.5/10
I didn’t encounter any hiccups throughout my gameplay, but I didn’t like the amount of grammar errors towards the end of the novel (there were 6 in total that I found). I felt like they could’ve used a little more of their time re-reading those parts and fixing it.

Value: 10/10
Despite its downsides, I think this is worth picking up as it does cover a lot of the questions you’ve probably been asking yourself since the beginning of the series. It’s also quite cheap anyway. I wouldn’t think twice if I saw this at triple the price.

Generic storyline? Check. Generic soundtrack? Check. Generic characters? Check. Throw them all in a pot and you end with up with a rather luckluster VN. Don’t bother.

PROS:
- The environment and character art aren’t terrible, though they lean towards the ‘generic pile’.

NEUTRAL:
- The gameplay is rather dull. It’s a cookie cutter mediocre “dating sim”.

CONS:
- There’s nothing good to mention about the story. The writing is cringy at times. You’ve probably already read this somewhere else, so don’t bother with it.

One of the shortest VNs to date. Just beware of the achievement bomb at the start and it’s otherwise a good laugh.

PROS:
- You can really tell the developer just wanted to have some fun with this OVN. Well, I had fun too.
- The ”Active Resistance” leaflet was hilarious.
- Menu soundtrack is really good. The overall in-game soundtrack is an improvement over the previous game.

NEUTRAL:
- No major improvements have been made to the character and environment design, which is a little bland, but they’re not terrible anyway.

CONS:
- I launch the game for the first time and…12 ACHIVEMENTS!! What the actual…hell.
- Please developer, fix this issue or just remove most of the achievements. No one needs 21 achievements in a sub 1-hour game.

A rather confusing to follow visual novel. Definitely not for everyone. Needs quite a lot more refinement in all areas to be considered somewhat “decent”.

Graphics: 5/10
Generic environment design, generic character design and generic UI elements. Average. Nothing special, but nothing ‘horrifying’. It’s as expected from a low-budget game.

Storyline: 2/10
It’s a mess. They managed to make a sub 3-hour VN from start to finish very difficult to follow, confusing me as a reader. Taking this seriously was hard. Please, slow down with the pacing and add more value to a chapter (as some can be completed in less than 5 minutes) so they seem to just be for the achievements.

Soundtrack: 5/10
The main menu and end credits soundtrack is very good, even if it isn’t a perfect match of the game. The sound effects are decent for the most part, nothing out of the ordinary.

Gameplay: 6/10
No nasty bugs or crashes, so no issues there. It could do with a few improvements.

First: The spacing between a word and a question/exclamation mark. For example, the sentence - “Okay ! We’ll do it !” should be written as “Okay! We’ll do it!”. This is an uncommon mistake, but do please fix it, remove the unnecessary spacing.

Second: Get the character sex right. I picked to play as a female character, but multiple times throughout the game I get referred to as a he.

Third: Weird bug. As soon as I hit “PLAY” for the first time I immediately get 4 achievements (all 4 at the same time) – “Read Future Prologue”, “Completed WTC 0”, “Chapter 1” and “New Game !!!”. The latter of which is supposed to happen, but I shouldn’t have earned the first three when launching the game for the first time.

Value: 10/10
I would’ve given this a 3 with the original price. Now that it’s free, it’s an automatic 10. So, go for it. Enjoy the craziness this brings to the table.

FINAL SCORE: 28/50 (56%)

Slider puzzle images woooo….yeah, no. The main feature is that you can choose your own images to solve, kinda neat, but eh. I expected better to be honest.

Please dedicate yourself to prepare some tissues alone time. This is ultimate crying simulator to date. Now, even longer than before.

Narcissu 1st & 2nd
- Haven’t read the original story before? Or has it been a while? Well, here’s your chance to read it. It’s the same as the free version one (as far as I can tell) which means it’s still as amazing.
- Oh, and the soundtrack? Don’t worry about that, it’s still the good old soundtrack you know (if you’ve read the free version before).

Narcissu: Himeko’s Epilogue
- Crisper visuals and an even faster story pacing. It’s the shortest of all of them (less than 2 hours). And it uses the same soundtrack as 1st and 2nd. The title speaks for itself really, not much to say about this one.

Narcissu: A Little Iris
- ‘Unusual’ would be the first word that come to mind. Being so used to the modern setting, this throws you right in the middle of medieval Europe. Good aspects that stick out the most include: The prologue and the how the backstory was told on chapter 6 (I can’t really put the right words to describe it, you’ll just have to read it for yourself).
- Also new soundtracks! And yes, they are pretty good. I do still like the original, but these were made to better match the setting and they’ve done a good job on that.

Narcissu: Zero
- If you have questions like ‘why are those the rules?’, ‘who made the rules?’, ‘what’s the difference between Station A and Station B?’ etc. This is the one to read. This is how it all started. The 7th floor. The rules. The patients. Everything.
- Out of all DLCs, I found this is to be the most interesting one. Definitely an eye opener for those keen on learning history.

Narcissu: Sumire
- Another unusual entry with a mix of science fiction thrown in for whatever reason. It still doesn’t make sense to me. Some of the characters are drawn differently in other scenes…an annoying inconsistency (the author does know about this though).
- This had the most story details and you can tell a lot of work was put into it, including a lot of new soundtracks. This is also the longest of all of them.

FINAL SCORE: 74/100
