Early Access Review
3/4/2020

Let me start off by saying the game is in HEAVY early access. Most of the complaints I will make and that you will see in this review section have been addressed by the developers or are likely to be fixed in the coming months.

Pros:

-Difficult game, for those of you that enjoy some difficulty.
-Skills trees with unique abilities in each that grant real, extremely noticeable benefits every level.
-Extremely well done dungeon-crawling sections.
-Very nice, stylized appearance.
-Entertaining turn-based combat.

Cons (As the game is now. More content will be added and many of these issues will be solved):

-Limited content/scaling (The game starts very difficult but quickly falls off to a relatively easy grind after the first 5 hours of play.
-Limited diversity. There are dungeon-crawling sections with very similar map layouts and format (go in dungeon, fight enemies until you find big boss, kill big boss, leave, collect reward, repeat). The rest of the game is either spent in town dealing with upkeep or in the Overworld where you come across wild animals or packs of bandits and nothing else.
-While the turn-based combat is very nice, this turn-based style continues into the rest of the game, making long distance travel feel clunky and annoying.
-No built-in way to have multiple saves. The only way to have multiple characters is to go into the game files yourself.

If this game was not being developed further, I would not recommend it. However, the game is very good for being so early in development. The developers have been extremely receptive to feedback and very engaged with their community, which makes me very optimistic. Stoneshard has a fantastic base and is only going to get better as time goes on.

DayZ, while being in Alpha for an awful amount of time, is still an overall good game with active development. This game will only get better.

A large amount of the playerbase is still active (at any time you'll find multiple full or nearly full servers), the newest patches have gotten rid of numerous bugs, and the game is still enjoyable to play overall.

To this day, I've never had a game that puts me more on edge than DayZ.
