I've been playing this game for years. It is an amazing mix of pretty space dog fighting, pretty decent story telling, pretty great empire builder, and pretty great spreadsheet simulator.

The game does have a story, but you can choose to completely ignore it if you like and go your own way. You can play a space pirate, a space admiral of your own space navy, a space tycoon with dozens of space stations you design yourself, a space hero saving the galaxy from a rogue AI decimating all species across the galaxy, or even a species annihilator yourself waging private wars; all from the view of a cockpit, map, or even looking out the window of your own capital ship. There's a comparison to off-line Eve Online or Star Citizen and there is a kernel of truth behind that.

Is the game perfect? Not quite. Hasn't stopped me from dropping hundreds of hours into it (many many many MANY hours were not tracked by Steam). The game gives you an amazing feeling of progression and downright awe of flying your own capital ship-led navy with 100+ fighters buzzing around in a massive battle.

Oh, and did I mention the sound track? *french kiss* for immersive gaming. The sound track is so good that I even listen to it when working or doing other tasks.

If you are interested in knowing more about the game, check out videos online for "what is X4 Foundations" to get some great summaries from peeps that are better at explaining why you should have already been playing this game for years.

What a fun puzzle game! It's totally a puzzle game in a city builder's clothing. Consider it more like a digital board game that would be really hard to implement with cardboard. Oh, and there's even a plot for the single player experience. Definitely recommend!

What a fantastic game! You are effectively driving a car with a 360 degree movable/mounted machine gun that you drive around shooting things. The difficulty comes from learning how to effectively move it about taking advantage of the physics the Havok Engine (the game engine the game runs on). Once you get the hang of it you'll be circle strafing your way to victory.

Lots of pretty explosions and secondary weapons keep the action flowing very well. I definitely recommend this one if you like twin stick shooters.

Update 3 Nov 19: I beat the game today. It was honestly fun. A bit challenging yes, a few bugs here and there, but overall an absolute blast! (pun provided free of charge). My previous observations definitely stand, you gotta learn to drive to effectively dodge missiles flying at you; it's critical to stay alive in the later levels.

What a great experience! This is a 1.5 hour interactive, choose your own story, movie that is very well written, directed, and shot. I was totally engrossed from start to finish. Well worth the time to watch it through at least once.

I'll have to get with some mates later to rewatch it and let them make all the decisions just to see if we get to another ending. 7 endings in all, gotta collect them all!

What a fantastic game! The flight and battle mechanics are doable and provide enough variety with different weapons, missiles, expendables and ship mods to keep every run exciting and fresh. Each play through runs about 1-1.5 hours. Even after beating the game 8 hours in I keep coming back for more. The story keeps getting fleshed out as you play through so there always seems to be something new to see/learn.

This is a very well done game and I heartily recommend it.

So I’ve had the opportunity to play a solo game and a 3 player game versus AI using the beta patch 1.413 and here’s my thoughts thus far.

The game plays buttery smooth for me. I love that the main screen actually mimics the board version with Mars taking up most of the view and your tableau sitting below and in front of you. The tableau is very easy to read at a glance once you learn the game. The tutorial isn’t bad, but as a new player I could see how a bit of hand holding during a real game would be helpful. The good news is that the UI does show you what cards in hand are currently playable and it even accounts for special resources you have in your pool to help you play those cards. I appreciate that cards in hand are initially shown in a grid pattern with symbols showing what they do to quickly see what you have while clicking a card expands the card to see the details. I also like how when you bring up a card to play it, the UI highlights what resources are going to be impacted by that card (e.g. red=loss of resource/production). In general I’m pretty happy with the UI and how it works.

Thanks to the latest beta patch, I played a draft game and it felt very much like the board version. I like how the UI for drafting continues to show you what you have already kept making your next choices easier to make.

I did not encounter any bugs that I was aware of with the AI nor game mechanics.

What I found most surprising was that a game with 3 players (me and two AI) doing a draft took about 2.5 hours to play (I won by a slim margin) and a solo game took about 2 hours (I lost by 1 plant!). These times are about what I would expect with humans, not a digital version. I keep playing to see if this is a consequence of the wonderful animations built into the game or me just thinking too hard.

About the only ‘wish it had’ suggestion I can offer up is that an undo button would be great.

Overall, I truly have enjoyed my time with the game in it’s current state. I’ve been wanting Terraforming Mars for a long time but don’t have interested friends and time to play a full blown game in the real world; this scratches the itch so much and am thrilled a digital version exists. I will update this review in the future if this sentiment changes and once I get a chance to try a multiplayer game.

So my fav game of the series was Marvel Vs Capcom 2. This comes very close to toppling the throne. Very fast paced, large detailed characters. Very fun overall.

I rather enjoyed the game. It's basically a trading game similar to many space sims where you are buying goods low/selling high, delivering passengers/mail, taking advantage of in-game events which drastically affect market prices, and collecting bounties for bandits you hunt down. With the game taking place in the 1800s you get to see the American Revolution play out. As time goes on bigger and stronger trains become avaliable thus naturally increasing what you can do in the game.

I personally did not run into any bugs and had a great time with the game; took me about 16 hours to play through.

Especially when it's on sale, it's a good purchase.
