So many shooters you've played had mechanics that were derived straight from System Shock 2. It was unique at the time, taking an RPG and mixing it with a real time shooter without a dice-roll was new. The horror/survival theme made it all the better. This is one of the best PC games ever made because of its long-lasting impact and innovative gameplay mechanics. This cult classic is right up there with Half Life.

The atmosphere is very good despite the dated graphics and the soundtrack is phenomenal. The level design is great and you really do feel like you're on an isolated space ship.
Things can be hard at times because it came from an era where games didn't hold your hand. You're forced to make sacrifices relating to your skills and inventory. You can make bad character builds, but the game does reward the player if you know what you're doing. System Shock 2 is a cult classic and I can't recommend it enough.
