Early Access Review
5/10, (9/10, 1 year before release)

Teamplay is the key to victory. Great banter with the lads.

I picked this game up because I like history, specifically WW2.

I was long looking for a game with more realism and yes I know Post Scriptum is much more realistic and hardcore. Coming from a Battlefield background I wanted like a 'casual realistic hardcore game' and thats what it is in my eyes.

Possible 10/10 with more and improved content. Currently its a bit rough on some edges but the game has massive potential.

EDIT 1 at 700h:

Still a very good game, got some issues but nothing too problematic. Progress is being made.

Now that the game is a bit older and got their own playerbase we can have sheduled matches and man 50vs50 Clan matches are a dream, absolutely fantastic to play with an experienced team with coordination and pre-match planning.

There is a group of clans which tries to provide a competetive environment, for example the "HLL Seasonal" some of these clans are a real blast to play against, nail-biting matches they can be. Had about 800 base-players participating, 1600 in total.

EDIT 2 at 1,1k hours:

Devs are confusing the hell out of me and changes seem to be slow aswell as not thought through properly.
I´d argue theres more problems with the game than at release, almost 1 and a half years ago.

EDIT 3:

U9 is absolute and utter garbage, devs have announced a port to console before its been properly "released" out of EA.

This is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kickstarter project.

Black Matter you have turned your playerbase against you and you deserve every single bit of it.
The last FAQ is 100% a scam, you throw words like Nebelwerfer around, you mostly answered questions that PRAISED YOU, it feels like your useless Community Manager wrote them himself.

YOU DONT TAKE CRITICISM FROM EXPERIENCED PLAYERS. ESSAYS OF FEEDBACK!
FOR NINE MONTHS THERE HASNT BEEN A SINGLE SIGN OF IMPROVEMENT
DO SOMETHING

EDIT 4 at release:

Now the game is fully released, to a newer player this game might seem decent for about 30 quid but those who´d been in the early access period from the start will definitely disagree, the game is further from full release than 1 year ago.

For starters the performance went down the toilet, stutters all over on some maps.
Most of which had been reworked from the authentic look and layout they had for a more balanced approach, changes they wouldnt have to do if they fixed the garrison meta (hasnt been fixed for a year) [the thing this game was about and which defined dynamic frontlines/ map control]

Their idea of a performance increase is to lower the render distance of certain assets, mind you its extremely garbage. In some cases whole houses become silhouettes from just 200 meters away.

These devs have made way to many promises to keep it authentic but kept increasing the amount of automatic weapons in loadouts, more and more houses became closed off, many had interiors but that drains performance right? so in response to removing those they added 1,5-2m tall grass EVERYWHERE, draining the performance more than before.

I could go on- the list of irrational decisions is pretty extensive. Most likely done by the lead dev Max. IMO he´s good at advertising, thats where his talents end.

Conclusion: To me it seems they accidently made a really really good game with some rough edges but then started to make big changes to the meta game, the loadouts, customization (since release even paid DLC), tanks had been left broken for 2 years and the rework didnt exactly change the opinion of the tankers I talked to.

SovietWombles video titled "DayZ video essay 1 - when early access is too early" perferctly encapsulates my feelings and those of many long time players/ supporters.

The game is in an ok state now for what it is but it couldve been much MUCH better and thats what annoys me alot.

cheers.
