It's worth it. Everything everyone else says is true, its hard and occasionally mean and dense, and yes, you will have to replay things sometimes. But its worth it. It's all the point, and the journey, the trek to the bottom and all the turns that takes time and time again, one of the best games of this type I can think of. Get it. Reach the wall, try everything you can, try not to burn out. Get help from the community if you need. I did! I took a 2 year break from the damn thing. But push through. It's truly incredible. There's nothing like it.

I want to add a dissenting voice to the reviews here in regards to the story, but first: Music is a mixed bag with very high highs, like the first game, the gameplay loop is mostly an upgrade, and its got some great spritework and visuals overall, creating memorable events and moments to go through. If you're just looking for a positive vibe, I think the game is worthwhile on those merits alone! For the story below, there's some general spoilers but I'm not going to get into specifics really.

The story is a real letdown for people, and I get it. I just wrapped the thing and I feel like I understand why people don't like the story. Hell, I don't even love the story as a cohesive whole. But I don't think its poorly done, I think it is, in fact, very well done. The game is immediately abstract and non-literal, set in a series of worlds and places you don't belong in. You are regularly called Visitors. Characters come into and out of focus, and you are only presented with snapshots of a lot of plotlines that other people are going through. There's the goals of the people around you that you get roped in to, there's the shadows of a consistent narrative, but thats a shadow you need to puzzle out your own context for. The game even starts with a quiz, asking you to put yourself out there and engage personally.

With that in mind, to me it really obviously reads consistently inconsistent across the whole work. Its a game about death, yes, but also about living life. You meet people and move on, are a major fixture in some people's lives when they aren't in yours. There isn't a consistent goal in the game because there isn't in life. You just go, and live experiences, remember them, take them with you and let them shape who you are. And in the same way, it doesn't really HAVE an ending. It fakes an ending and then just keeps going. Because life doesn't have endings, until you're not in it anymore. You don't get to see it.

And, like, II truly get why people didn't like the story and "ending". Games have endings, stories usually end in some way. And this very intentionally doesn't! It just goes. You can refight any fight you want. You can go anywhere. But you also can't change much either. "You can't change the present" is said a lot in the arena where you can do any fight in the game, past or future. You can prepare all you want for meetings in life or reminisce on previous ones, but that can't change where you are, right now. Reading my dog-*** review. :P

So give it a chance! The story is atypical, but theres a lot to enjoy. Moments to take with you. And if you want that consistent narrative, go play Everhood 1. Its phenomenal.

Just wrapped this up today, and it deserves to be more seen! Feels like a bite sized daniel mullins experience, which is just what I needed. Had a great time plumbing terminals, and the built in walkthrough feature is fantastic for someone like me who occasionally has trouble with their typing and needs to double check themselves. Thank you for the fantastic experience!

Exceptionally cute, charming, and relaxing. A trickle feed of mechanics you're meant to pick apart to understand, and as you come to grasp with most, some more are introduced. Charmingly minimal words. Home to one of the more raw button prompts I've seen lately. If you want a smaller, completable idle game, this is a good one. Thanks for the lovely gift, devs.

This game is fun and the variance in all the characters is great. But honestly, I kinda wanna thank the devs for including Asha and Remedy and other Remar games stuff: It's what got me in and I'm glad to be here. Also seeing Iji content in 2021 makes me thrilled. So thank you! Look forward to more, if there ever will be.
