Great idea for a game. The idea is truly a gem. Unfortunately the implementation of the game has so many rough edges that makes the gem crooked and unusable.
Ever since I played Sid Meier's Covert Action many years ago, I wonder why this game loop of acquiring evidence, analyzing it, and planning next steps in a procedural generated story is so underrepresented.
Shadows of Doubt is a great idea for reviving this kind of loop in games.
However the difference is that Covert Action felt like a finished product, whereas Shadows of Doubt mechanics feel unbalanced and unpolished to the point where it is really hard to have fun playing the game.
This game cannot be recommended as a finished product in the current state.

For many reasons one of the best roleplaying games. There are many different ways to build a character, allowing for balanced builds, or extremes(e.g. 1 intelligence with 10 strength). There are many different skills to level up, allowing for the player to finish the same quest in various possible ways. The main quest feels meaningful, and can also be finished is many different ways.
The game offers almost unlimited freedom to the player, allowing the player to ignore or even kill anyone, even important characters, the quests will adapt and flow normally.
The game also offers many places to explore, almost all of them with some in depth story regarding the place, but even if the player doesn't care about the stories it is still fun to clear and loot the dungeons.
There is a great variety of factions in the game, and each of them have their own concerns and conflicts.
The dialogs of the game have many ways it can unfold, depending on how your character developed.
The only annoying parts of this game are the quite frequent bugs.
Given the amount of content the game has and the many different ways you can choose to play it, it is fair to say that this is one fo the most complete roleplaying games you can find.

Crusader Kings II is one of the best games you could buy, everything, from the freedom the game offers the player to the intricate stategies that makes your influence grow manages to hold you on to the game. You can play in several aspects of the game, economic, military, diplomatic, cultural and even religious.
I find it very hard to point flaws in the game, i'd say the most annoying would be the great amount of expansions the game offers, however, they extended the lifetime of the game, and many of them come with complex changes(within the updates) that benefit even those who didn't decide to buy it.
