I've put in my 52 hours between a couple of servers and I can safely say I recommend this game. It simply gets better with friends as well. The game is new and could use some more work squad/coop-wise but it has a STRONG foundation. Think arcade-mode Arma Exile/DayZ/Escape from Tarkov/PUBG all in one.

Downloaded, gave me a 10gb download and that's okay. I get excited after the download and launch the game. It opens in a "my.com" external launcher and starts an update. Well that's annoying but whatever, especially because it takes longer than it should. I launch the game and I am thrown into a tutorial right away and that's awesome, in my opinion. I run past the first obstacles, probably <25 seconds of gameplay then 'lost connection to server' and the game immediately closes itself. Try to relaunch, no dice. Launch into one or two intro animations and then a crash. I send a crash report because I get prompted to. Attempt to relaunch again, no dice at all. Launch, the icon appears on the bottom of the screen but the app doesn't launch and then the icon disappears.
TLDR: Try it if you want to, just don't use Steam for it.
Edit: The 2.7 hours I have are from the external launcher downloaded the dumbass update.

Personally, I have had close to no fun with this. WIth the UI and simply the FEEL of the game, it seems like an alpha build. It feels rough around the edges. If I play the way I played other Civ games, I place last on the leaderboards on settler difficulty. I play Civ for the spectacle that is the massive empires you can create, and I hate not being able to simply do things. The new building system is absolutely infuriating to me. Instead of being revolutionary it's an extreme annoyance and only a hassle.

Unless you're a hardcore fan of Civ and are of the people who enjoy a difficult experience, don't buy this game.
