Went ahead and bought Ultra Edition for a friend and me to play, not sure that was money well spent. Even if I had watched some gameplay before a bit of a rushed decision, I don't feel like I would have been prepared for what awaited me.

I played quite a few hours of the original Space Marine and had a lot of fun with it--although I never finished the campaign. I was pretty excited for this one and thought that the 3 person co-op would be awesome.

Might just be my opinion, but from the other reviews I've read, I think a number of other people agree that the game just doesn't feel right. I'm not expecting any fundamental changes to the game at this point seeing as how enough people seem to claim they're enjoying it, but the game seems to be at odds with itself.

I selected Veteran difficulty, because (as far as I recall) that was the difficulty of the "Intended Game Experience" and I figured it would be a decent challenge, but still fairly fun to get through. That being said, just to get through the tutorial I was having a bit of a struggle. And I get it, new game, skill issue, whatever you want to call it, I figured it was something I just needed to learn and get used to. But, by the time I was trying to get through the first mission, it was an absolute nightmare.

I can't blame the game for being what it is, but I expected to be rewarded for brutal combat. Instead, it seems that you need to just dance around the best you can in your giant suit of armor, hoping your health doesn't get chunked away before you get downed for the 3rd time while you're hopelessly waiting for your "Ult"/Fury to regen after burning through every medpac in sight. TLDR: I don't feel the least bit like a badass Astartes, I feel like an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥ Astra Militarum trying to not get fondled by Tyranids. The executions in the original Space Marine were more varied and more satisfying in a "Doom" sense, as well as easier and more rewarding to execute.

Half the time the telegraphed parries or counters aren't even close enough or available for you to benefit from, the combo system seems clunky, and you're constantly dumping ammo into dumb situations. Again, this is based off of maybe 4 hours of Veteran difficulty. Obviously I'm a bit bias, but I don't feel like this can completely fall into the realm of skill issue, I truly believe there's a fundamental disconnect between the intended/expected feel of the game and the mechanical execution.

Medpacs regen approximately 30% of your HP which will be gone in another 5 seconds, you Ult heals maybe 50% over time, and some timed counters will give you a few pixels. Instead of crazy executions giving you a nice chunk of health back, they just take up time and give you the chance to be surrounded by little ♥♥♥♥♥ that are going to only send you closer to death.

Am I going to try and enjoy the game? Yes, with friends only at this point.

Will I likely be turning down from the "Intended Game Difficulty" just to have a somewhat enjoyable experience? Probably.

Do I at all agree with the fundamental feel of the game or how I can even stay alive long enough to feel like the badass Astartes I'm meant to be? Absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ not...

Overall, I felt like a badass in the original Space Marine, I feel like a bucknaked Tau with a laser pointer in this one.

Update: Game won't even launch properly a week in. Can't even try to enjoy it

You will sit and play this game longer than you intend to every single time that you launch it--its inevitable. The depth to the game is great, and it is enjoyable solo as well as with friends.
