Review from free-play time during w/c 11th Sept 2023

Honestly, if the game keeps the "exact" same and just adds more cards (I assume they may one day get stale, but for now it's great), this could be one of the next best games to play with friends.
It runs on my potato intel integrated GPU (with gfx at v low, and 40% screen res, but it still looks pretty great due to the inherently blocky art style).
The game is really fun! It would be nice to see your opponents "funky new cards" before they get played. When the A-Bomb went off, I was bewildered but I love it, even though I don't have the card.
It does have a cheating problem though, I think?

I have played the campaign, which is actually a good tutorial for getting into the mindset of the game.
It lets you from the start understand the clothing, and needs bars mechanics, as well as helping you grasp the other main mechanics before you enter milton.
The freeplay mode is also very fun, despite looking perhaps a bit goalless, the whole premise is to set your own goals. I'm currently 35 days into my first proper run, where my goal is to traverse every map, learn how to use the bow (this is not taught in Ep1+2), and eventually climb Timberwolf Mountain to the Summit. These goals were set by me, and the day to day planning on how to achieve this is very enjoyable.

Gripes:
- Ankles are made of twigs both in strength and sound they make when you sprain them.
- If I sprain my wrist I can still hold a rock in the other hand no?
- The walking is a little boring without something else to do like talk with a friend - co-op will be the best thing to happen to this game
- Why can't I chose the music to listen to? I'd rather listen to the main theme the whole time, it's fantastic.
- Ep3-5 when :(((((

Things I like:
- Each map is varied in loot style and general layout, keeping it fresh.
- Some maps are excellent training grounds. For example Forlorn Muskeg is good for outdoor living practice, as it has few structures within it.
- The planning, cartography and map knowledge ensure that every playthrough will be different. If you come back to a place in a new playthrough, you know the map better, so you can plan better, and plan different. Know a bear or moose spawns somewhere after you got your ass ravaged by it last playthrough? Next time approach the area with caution and a rifle!

Things I hope for in future:
- Co-op
- Revolver (I'd very much enjoy a low power close range hunting weapon, so I can HS the deer and save my rifle for more dangerous animals)
- A compass item (takes a short time to use, but is rare and non-craftable) + an improvised compass item (takes longer to use, but is craftable)
