Let's get this out of the way: Gone Home is an interactive experience, much like The Novelist, The Stanely Parable, and other games of such caliber. Unlike a game like The Stanely Parable, though, Gone Home doesn't have much of a point to its narrative other than being gaming's version of oscar-bait; It's 90% story and 10% playing detective.

The exploration of the game is detailed nicely, with every room filled with scraps of the story for each family member. This is betrayed by the games audio logs from Sam (your sister) who just flat-out explains the reason for notes and such and kills any desire for discovery. Instead, it encourages clicking and examing every object until the next audio log plays. It's disappointing considering the amount of effort put into the detail.

What annoys me about the narrative is that if the same story had been told with a heterosexual couple instead of lesbians, it'd be knocked for cliche romance-novel writing and predictable endings.

Bottom Line: Is Gone Home a good game? Sure, it's worth exactly one playthrough. Is it worth $20? Absolutely not. Wait until a sale or humble bundle for this one. It's 3 hours at its very, very, very most.

♥♥♥♥ THIS GAME

It's a great idea that's muddled by less-than-stellar execution. Despite what the game tells you, the "blues" are not your enemy, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ collision detection is. Since almost all of your moves are context sensitive, there are abundances of moments where either a jump or a wall run simply won't activate, causing you to fall to your death. The combat is ♥♥♥♥, so add that to the iffy collision detection and top it with frequent QTE's to disarm baddies or beat a boss.

Surprisingly for a game all about momentum, it keeps putting you in places that bring you to a halt. At least half of the game is set indoors and as the levels go on it becomes more and more difficult to get an idea of where you need to go, simply because the level design feels more akin to a FPS, not a platformer. I admire the game for wanting to get rid of the hud (something more games ought to consider), but lack of an objective or some sort of objective marker makes it extraordinarily difficult to figure out what you're supposed to do half the time.

Steam claims I beat this game in under 3 hours. I know I died a lot, so take that as you may.

Although it retains the cool atmosphere and detailed level design from the first game, Last Light sacrifices a lot of its originality for cinematic action sequences, many of which you have little to no impact on. There is a bigger emphasis on stealth, although I think it's a misstep. The stealth mechanics are laughable and enemy AI is borderline blind. The story I also think is a step down, being more about big plot reveals instead of a more personal story.

And, much like the first one, it runs like ♥♥♥♥.

A game that's up its own ass. It's essentially an experiment to see if a player will play a mediocre game because he likes the story.

The gameplay is as tedious as it gets: A basic platformer with little visual flair where you must place several different player characters in a goal position. Instead of developing from there, the developers decided to focus on a story. While find on its own, coupled with slow dull gameplay doesn't engage the player.

It was an interesting experiment, but I think if they wanted to test with players, they should've released it for free.

Surprisingly good! The gameplay is fun at its core and it really encourages stealth, although it's not necessary. It's just as easy to go in guns blazing, and both are equally rewarding. The story is solid too, with some of the better written characters recently in video games.

You won't find much to do after the 16-18 hour campaign is over and I didn't bother with multiplayer. Some issues I encountered related to my AMD card, something common with players.

If you don't mind lazy gameplay mechanics, an over-emphasis on story, hastily written characters, extremely linear "open world" mechanics, and bulletsponge enemies, give Bioshock Infinite a try. It'll last you a single 12 hours, if you're lucky.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Sleeping Dogs campaign. The combat that attempts to be dynamic is flawed but functional, much like the rest of the game. Some issues plague the PC version like some redundant controls and awkward camera placement. The sheer bugginess of the game can provide for a lot of entertainment, however situational it may be.

If you're looking for GTA-style gameplay, I'd say you're better off with GTA. Otherwise, Sleeping Dogs will keep you playing for about 16-18 hours on its campaign.

Looks great, but the RTS is slow and really simplistic. A majority of your time will be waiting for your units to arrive since there's not much else to do other than "go to this point and capture it".

Horrible PC port, bad controls, really kind of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sandbox game. Even for a sandbox the graphics are pretty sub-par, the story is crap, and the volume is strangely lower than all other applications, so you have to crank it up whenever you play.

I got 3 hours in before I decided to stop. Can you make it that far?

A brilliant, heart-racing, dark adventure through the world of The Walking Dead. Superb dialogue, amazing characterization, and choices that do affect the way the story turns out. It may just well be Telltale's finest work yet.
