This is a neat spin on pinball. It's not a long or hard game. It only took me 92 minutes to 100% the achievements. But I liked the premise and the different characters were fun. I thought the pinball simulation was quite good. Decent flipper control and physics. I don't think the game is meant to be something you will play for a long time as it didn't take long to run out of things to spend your currency on. But that is okay, for the price I feel that 1.5 hours of entertainment was worth it.

I love Pinball. I love Breakout. I love EDM. So of course this was a must buy. I 100% completed the achievements, and spent 10 hours on it, and giving it a thumbs up. So I love it right? It's complicated:

Pros:
- Theme was great
- Music was good
- Level design was good with some exceptions
- Length of game was excellent value for the price
- Leaderboards: Check
- Achievements: Check
- Being able to end the level when down to 3 bricks is a nice touch
- Being about to buy an extra ball with points is a nice touch

Cons:
- The pinball flippers were not implemented well IMO
- The difficulty was a bit all over the place
- Some level design issues
- Minor bugs
- Lack of key configuration and mouse speed
- The crossfade between songs was weird because the songs don't blend with each other well
- a quick level restart would be nice for when you have a bad start

The idea behind this game is amazing. But I feel the execution could be better. I did not find the flippers to be very impactful to the gameplay. There are mini flippers on your paddle, and most of the levels have some flippers you can actuate. But the ones on the paddle don't do that much and are hard to use, and the ones around the playfield don't have a good feel, sometimes get stuck and stop working, and it's not always obvious (to me) which will be connected to the left and right buttons. So I ended up playing this as a more standard breakout clone and mostly ignored the flippers.

The achievements were a little annoying too. I noticed there are achievements based on difficulty so I played through the whole game on the highest difficulty (Frantic) but it did not award the Hardcore difficulty achievements at the same time like many/most games would, so you do have the play through the entire game at least twice to 100% it.

Probably my biggest gripe is lack of customization. I used a combination of mouse and keyboard, but you can't remap the buttons/keys so I used a really awkward hand position so I could be ready with the button to end the level when you're down to 3 bricks, but still have quick access to fire when that powerup came along. My mouse was a tad too fast and I didn't find a way to slow it down within the game, and I have it's speed dialed in the way I like it for Windows / other games so didn't want to fix it there, so I just dealt with it.

Some level design choices I would change: Putting a spinner too close to the paddle was more annoying than challenging. It's almost always an instant ball drain when the ball is fast and going to bounce off in a random direction just an inch above your paddle. The final Stage 7 levels with the paddle at the top and bottom was also hard, but annoying-hard not fun-hard. You have to get lucky because to catch a good powerup at the bottom and not drain the ball at the top is not possible way too often.

Bottom line, I obviously liked it enough to play it a lot, and for the price it's a steal.

New to this game 7/2024. I think that is important as many reviews are of earlier iterations and I think it has had a lot of quality improvements sine the early days which may make some negative reviews now irrelevant.

Wow this game is awesome. Incredible amount of polish on this. I can tell it really benefited from the early access phase with tons of user input that was (obviously) well received by the devs.

I use an external DSP for my sound device which adds significant delay but this game has a fantastic calibration system that will let you dial it in perfectly. It even has separate video and audio offsets.

I was a little confused about the controls just from watching trailers/videos, but it's actually quite simple. Granted I've only played Easy and Normal, but so far I can play the entire game with one hand on the mouse:
  • Round notes you catch with the wheel by smoothly dragging it side to side to match colors.
  • Dash shaped notes you do the same but tap the mouse button at the precise moment.
  • Dash notes with tails you do the same but hold the mouse and follow the tail.
  • Spin by flicking the mouse left or right.
  • Scratch by wiggling the mouse.
If that sounds complicated, it's not. The visual cues are great and you quickly get familiar with it and enter an almost zen-like state where it feels very intuitive. The mistake I make the most right now is forgetting to tap on the dash notes after a long string of round ones. LOL

The visual options in this game are astounding. You can configure the HUD to fit your preferences (very granular, you can show/hide and reposition many HUD elements). You can also unlock all sorts of skins and visual things. I think it is the perfect balance of being visually busy but everything on the screen you need to see is very clear and the rest add a very cool aesthetic.

I saw a negative review complaining about the song unlock system being too hard to unlock the best songs, but I think they must have fixed that as I'm only 4 hours into the game and I've unlocked 50 of 66 songs and have keys for 4 more already (most songs I have only played once on Easy) and you get to choose which songs to unlock next, so I don't see any issues with the way unlocks work. 66 songs at the start would be overwhelming.

The music is also awesome. It is mostly EDM / Dubstep type stuff (which I love) but honestly that type of music fits this type of game perfectly. I mean you can even play the game with DJ controllers if you like.

Perfectionists will appreciate you can sort songs by your best score, so the top of the list is the songs you need to improve the most.

Someone said this is the next evolution past Rock Band / Guitar Hero. That seemed like a presumptuous statement when I read it, but now I agree. It combines a lot of what I loved about those games and adds to it, and I don’t need a room full of peripherals to play it.

Wow, this game is great. I've always liked "Brick Breaker" type games dating all the way back to Arkanoid. But the one bad thing about the genera is they are all basically the same game with a different skin. NOT THIS ONE!! This game adds so much more. There is a story, there are secret levels, there are chests, there are boss battles, and tons of different enemies that have unique attacks and you actually do have to play differently based on what the game throws at you. It took me a about 15 hours to get 100% achievements, but it was never grindy. Maybe a little when trying to collect all the monsters, but that went pretty fast, and the rest of the achievements are meaningful things you would naturally do in the game anyway if you are a completionist. So there is a lot of content here for your money!

I played the entire game solo, but the fact it also supports local co-op is really cool.

If you are gonna go for 100% achievements, I recommend reading this guide before you get too far into the game to save you some time: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2647461994

And if you miss any keys, this full map can help find which levels they are in (if you never miss the contents of the blue chest, you'll find every hidden level without having to go back): https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=947536836

By no means is this game great, but considering I paid less than $1 and had enough fun to complete all 30 levels, I would give it a thumbs up.

There is a fun game hidden in here. But this feels unfinished. The pace is slow, the music is boring, the power-ups are uninspired, but the actual game-play is pretty good, and the theme is cute. There is also a lack of options, but it looked good and played smooth on my 1080p setup.

The thing I disliked the most was one of the negative power-ups. I get that a question mark is a gamble, maybe good maybe bad, but one of the bad power-ups simply reversed left and right. I found that to be more annoying than challenging, and it didn't end even if you lost the ball. So you could either wait out the timer after losing a ball or chance it, but I found it hard to play backwards if there was anything fast to react to. Kinda dumb.

There are 30 achievements and 30 levels. You get 1 achievement for each level beaten. Which is good because the game itself doesn't even track which levels you have beaten. So I suggest playing them in order and using the achievements to track your progress.

At the end of the day, I spent 1.5 hours playing this and got all achievements, so far that low bar given the price, thumbs up.

Possibly the best horizontal shooter I've ever played.

When I first started playing this I thought it was fairly bland and uninteresting, but it grew on me.

Here are all the things I really like:
  • The level select screen makes it very handy to come back to where you are, and to replay completed levels.
  • The upgrade system allows you to increase your power in significant ways so you can defeat harder levels.
  • There is a variety of foes and bosses that are interesting.
  • There are bonus levels that are really creative and fun.
  • The music is very good.
  • The achievements are well designed and it is challenging but not too hard to 100% the game.

Here are all the things I wish were better/different:
  • There are some temporary weapon "upgrades" that are worse than your main weapon, so I found myself dodging them sometimes. Maybe this was intentional, but I didn't like it.
  • Related to the above your default weapon can shoot enemy missiles, but some temp upgrade weapon's can't making them undesirable. I just found that to be an odd design choice, possibly even a bug.
  • Level 10 seems to be a steep difficulty bump. I was stuck on this level for a long while and almost gave up.
  • The upgrade system is not very intuitive. Better explanations of what each upgrade actually does would help. This was part of my issue with level 10, I was upgrading things that didn't matter much.
  • There are some bad guys that will attack from behind. This seems unfair and requires you to memorize the level. That is not always a bad thing, but I didn't like it. I prefer to have my eye/hand coordination and upgrade level of the ship to be the main factors in success or failure.

Overall, I say this game is a winner and punches well above it's price point. It's well worth your $$ and time if you like side scroller shmups.

This game deserves more love than it's getting on Steam (I assume since it has so few reviews). It's a fun shooter with a cute theme. I found the sounds of this game particularly nice, as they were good fidelity but also easy on the ears (no annoying or grading sound effects). The music was enjoyable as well. The graphics are nice and punch well above the price point of this game.

I had fun getting all 50 achievements. None of them are outrageously hard, so very doable if you are looking for that 100% but you do have to actually do stuff for them, so there is some challenge too.

Pros:
- great look and feel
- great sound and music
- fun to play
- not too short, not too long campaign
- many other game modes, even a somewhat hidden bonus game
- somewhat engaging story
- a variety of foes and characters
- multiple difficulty settings to choose from
- each bird/character you play has different weapons and abilities
- it even has cosmetics in the form of different hats you unlock for your birds

Cons:
- the analog sticks (at least on the current gen Xbox controller) are not proportional, so no fine movement
- cutscenes are a bit slow (you can't speed up the text but you can skip the scenes entirely)
- some may find the game play too repetitive, but it's a shooter, so I forgive this
- the boss fights re fun, but a lot of bosses are similar to one another
- I found one of the birds' weapon annoying because it would overheat and stopped firing

This game seems unfinished. There are 15 levels, and one boss. There are multiple ships to choose from but I can't tell much difference between them. There is no options menu. Navigating the menus must be done with your mouse, but I did fin the Xbox controller will operate your ship.

The shield power up seems to only work against the boss (bug?) at the end of level 15. I'm also not crazy about the balance. Killing the final boss made a horrible noise that wouldn't go away until I exited the game.

It gets very hard very quick, and the only reason I was able to get to the boss at the end was avoiding most of the harder levels by flying in the top corner. The difficulty balance is made worse that if you die you lose your power up meaning getting a new one is nearly impossible since your one goal is to not get hit.

I did like that you can restart the game from the level you last made it do so progressing was still possible and kind of fun. Getting 100% achievements was pretty easy.

All in all I would have given this a thumbs down but I only paid 75 cents for it which is cheaper than one single 2 minute game in an arcade, so considering I got about 40 minutes of play out of this game, that is 75 cents well spent. ;)

Early Access Review
This game is really fun. The movement in this game is what makes it so special. You have very precise and responsive control over your crab which makes it a joy to play.
