CRAWL is dripping in style, and has all the substance you can ask for.

Having followed this game from early access I cam confidently state that with all the additions and tweaks that the game has received over time. It hasn't lost one drop of the forbidden elixir that makes it so intense. The AI is challenging, the procedurally generated levels are unpredictable and the 'loot' (shop bought items) make you feel powerful without being invincible.

No game is perfect but the flaw in crawl is one that makes it all the more appealing to me. When you play crawl on your own it's good. But when you play with friends one of two things will happen.

1. You will ha e an epic time and never want to play without your friends (which your friends will insist, lest you gain knowledge/skill advantage)

2. You're friends don't get it and you crush them over and over. Feeling 'badgood' that they won't be blessed by the dark gods and knowing that even though you have enjoyed this so you won't get a chance to play this way often.

Both of these eventualities are a poison chalice. Because they will lessen the amount of play time you get.

Between the mechanics, sound visuals, setting, replauability and all other factors I'd easily give Crawl 9/10. However I will knock this down to an 8/10 as it's mileage may vary dependent on each persons circle of friends.
