Judas Iscariot (יהודה איש קריו, ʾîš-qərijjôt) - in Christianity, one of the twelve apostles, disciples of Jesus Christ; the only native of the province of Judea among the twelve apostles, the rest were Galileans.
According to the Gospel of John, he was the treasurer of their community: he was entrusted with a box into which the offerings were dropped. According to John, taking advantage of his position, Judas stole. At the last meal, Jesus gave him, dipping it, a piece of bread and told him: "What you are doing, do quickly." Then Judas went out and betrayed him, giving him to the chief priests for 30 pieces of silver. Part of the Codex Chacos papyrus discovered in Egypt in the 1970s - a text called the Gospel of Judas - presents Judas Iscariot as the only disciple of Christ who understood the origin of the teacher and to whom Jesus Christ revealed all the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.
