I got this around Launch because I love MK11 on other platforms. I wanted to see the story play out. After the initial hype had died out: I was left with bloatware that was no fun to come back to, and kept increasing in size. I foolishly attempted a refund to no success (I know my playtime exceeded what was allowed). As a huge Mortal Kombat fan: I feel cheated and would recommend you watch the story on youitube if that's all you want from this. The gameplay is slower and less interesting than it's prequel, the roster is laughable, and the story is over in a few hours. The install size is actually baffling and it's gonna keep increasing with added content. Save your money. I should have bought Street Fighter 6.

So I admit: I picked this game up thanks to all the youtube videos and memes around it. It's so much more fun than I thought it would be. I haven't even played it with a full voice chat group yet. Even with randos I have played this far more than I expected to in a few days. It's a fun little "he said, she said, they, said" game. A good time for those wanting to scream and laugh with friends, or make new ones with the randos after killing them off. Anyone can pick it up easily after a round or two and is very similar to "the ship" with FAR less jank.

TL;DR
Issa good time.

(TL;DR at bottom)

It's fun, but not spectacular in any sense of the word. It looks great from a visual standpoint and the gameplay is pretty forgiving even on what this game calls "hard mode". That being said there is some fun to be had, but it's in very short burst and comes mostly from the cheesy saturday morning cartoon esque story. I'll just list the good and the bad.

Pros-
-Visually stunning
-Characters actually interact with each other
-Stages are plentiful
-Lots of gear to unlock
-free DLC
-Cheesey Sonic Adventure-esque story (could be a con for others)
-Avatar stages are exciting and fun (still short)
-Fully voiced in multiple langauges.
-The Music

Cons-
-Stages are ALL super short
-Reused areas
-Lots of meh designed 2d stages
-Denuvo (as of this review)
-Very poorly optimized (Minimum specs given on page are most definitely incorrect)
-Multiple bugs on launch day even with day one patch and fix soon after.
-Janky modern level controls.
-Samey bosses
-Over priced for length

Needless to say, most fans will enjoy it for what it does right. There is fun to be had with this game ( I honestly had some fun with this) but it isn't anything special. Not as bad as people are claiming it is, but it's also not the greatest either. It kinda reminds me of Sonic heroes with boost play. It'll be fun to revisit for some quick plays.

I recommend this for fans that want a silly Sonic Adventure styled story with quick levels. Wouldn't recommend for new fans or anyone that wants a game to really sink their time into. If it were cheaper, maybe. I as a fan did enjoy the game personally but it's not for everyone.

TL;DR: If you're not a series fan, you'll likely hate this one. I personally had some fun but It's short/over priced. Get it on sale and on console rather than here. (unless Denuvo gets removed) 6/10

EDIT: Grammar edits. Changed overall rating because lack of useful DLC and careful reflection of my purchase (overall gameplat time and replayabilty) My thoughts on the review have not changed (much) but $40 is a bit pricey even for this.
