If i were to describe My Time at Portia in one sentence, It would be a "weird, 3D, bootleg version of Stardew Valley". It hits similar beats as far as tone goes and even does it own thing at times which i appreciate! But it is not as polished nor balanced as its previously named competition. I have several run ins with what i would describe as "clunk" when playing My Time at Portia. Both by design and general use of the Unity engine.

My Time at Portia is a "Life Simulator" game similar to titles like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, but with a more placed upon emphasis on building and constructing items and products to fulfill contracts rather than farming. Once you have the plans to make said item, you will need to go out in the world and obtain the raw materials needed to construct the item. In this aspect, is truly where the game excels. delving into forgotten ruins for raw ores or going out into the open wilderness for wood, all to get that fat pay check. At first, your jobs start simple and require basic materials but soon expands to more complex items that require more advanced methods of machining.

My Time at Portia lore and aesthetic is set in a post-apocalyptic world. You're not just finding materials out in the open wilderness, you are salvaging in the ruins of the old world, using fragments of technology that is all but lost. Littering the town of Portia are massive old buildings of a more advanced time, a constant reminder of humanity's dark past and the fragile balance of technology versus nature. This is present in the townspeople of Portia, for there are those who are wary of the past and wish for it to remained buried and those who are eager to regain their lost knowledge and to rebuild humanity to where it once was. This is by far MTaP biggest selling point and is truly where it sets itself a part from the others.

But it is not without its problems. Movement and platforming is really stiff. The combat is very basic and clunky and you will be doing quite a lot of it. Your attacks and moves don't leave a lot of impact and it feels empty. Like you are just hitting and enemy hitbox and waiting for the health bar to go down. Honestly, if i were to describe it, combat feels like something derived from a mmorpg or sorts. The wildlife just inhabit a spawn point complete with life bars and levels above their heads. It a bit soulless. There has also been general game crashes for unexplained reasons.

Sound Design is all over the place. It's somewhat fully voice acted, but its missing in some parts. The quality in voice acting ranges from really good to down right awful. (Just socialize with Papa Bear and figure that one out) Some the sound effects are really good, but others sound like they're ripped straight from the unity store. The game's soundtrack however, is overall really good and really fits the game's feel and tone.

There's alot of different mini games and mechanics throughout like the developers wanted put all of these cool things they wanted, but they don't really blend together. The socializing aspect in itself is probably in my honest opinion, the game's weakest point. You have to interact with the townsfolk a lot to get them to open up to you. That in itself isn't a problem. Its the strange, added on mini-games that make the process truly bizarre and dare i say, extremely juvenile. Things like Rock, Paper, Scissors or organizing "Play Dates" take me out of the experience and make me feel like a child rather than a young adult the game is setting you out to be. There are TONS of these little mini game things and it feels unneeded and not worth it. Doing these task don't net you much of a reward and feels like busy work, especially if you're trying to marry a particular person.

Overall however, this game is pretty fun for the most part. though it has many shortcomings. Highly recommend to those looking for a good open world experience!

7/10

This hidden gem of a game might seems dumb at first but you soon realize you're on an action packed thrill ride that has no qualms in stopping. It's not just a simple racing game. It's character action, shmup, and fighting game all in one! And the FMVs give this game its silly b rated charm. Can you spot Troma creator Lloyd Kaufman? Do yourself a favor and ignore the big name reviews. Buy this title. Easily a shining diamond in Steam's ruff.

Metal Slug mixed with Borderlands. What more can you ask for? Very addicting and very fun! 4 player Co-op makes this game even better!

Probably one of the best RTS games ever. Land combat is awful, but Space combat is incredible with visable battle damage on your units.

>become quite successful. Join an army. Own an army of 50 well armed troops.
>encounter a random group of 10 unaffiliated mounted knights
>95% of your troops are dead. They loot almost everything from you.

Mountain Blade in a nutshell.

A cute little game that activates a new game mechanic for every treasure chest you find. I think you evolve in gaming's history way too fast and there's definately some missed oppurtunities.

Seriously, if you like FF7 that much, why didn't you give the 3d model character those stupid popeye arms?
