Humanity is truly a work of art.

Humanity (the game) much like humanity (the biological species) exhibits vast diversity, endless creativity, and is at times beautifully arresting. This gem of a puzzle game is a joy to play, each trial thoughtfully constructed to push users to think in a non-lineral manner.

The visuals, and accompanying soundtrack, are appropriately trippy and trance-like. My favorite levels are the ones which have water features - watching a never-ending stream of humanoid bodies swim by like a school of fish is mesmerizing. The game does a great job of gradually revealing new tricks and mechanics to meet the ever increasing challenges of the next trials.

Anyone who thinks that video games can't be art needs to see Humanty's throngs of low-poly crowds throwing elongated shadows cast by a low light source, or unending waves of bodies hurling themselves into oblivion... Then take some time to examine that obviously incorrect belief they hold.

Humanity is a "must play" for anyone who loves great puzzle and/or trippy & psychedelic games.

$20 well spent at sale price, picked it up just after the Dec '23 patch and it runs great. It's really exactly what I was hoping it would be - an early 2000's 3D action throwback. The story and cut scenes are nucking futz, the voice acting "so bad it's good," and the game-play for the weirdly specific vibe they're going for actually nails it. Similar to Dead to Rights in art direction and tone, but more like Oni, The Matrix: Path of Neo, or Ninja Gaiden in terms of how it actually plays. All in all, it's a lovely homage to (and pastiche of) an era of gaming that a particular audience is especially nostalgic for.
