Early Access Review
Before I begin I'd like to preface this review by saying that I plan to add more details to this as the game develops more as at the time of writing this review I have completed Act 1.

First impressions:

I had a great time exploring the world, and enjoy the music and charm of the characters. Throughout my play time I kept noticing fun little animation details and quirks given to characters that really gave the presentation a nice sense of care. In a game that has a good deal of cutscenes, having these little quips and expressions goes a long way in helping the story and characters have some personality to them. There's a delightful squishiness to some characters and it makes them feel cartoony and fun and you can tell there was love put into them all. I am usually not the biggest cutscene fan, especially with games like this, but I feel they were done well and none over stayed their welcome so far. The music compliments the style of the game quite well and even songs that are just short loops fit the mood just right. There are some longer tracks for more epic battles or moments, and I look forward to seeing what else awaits my ears as I explore this game. The overall world is fun enough to explore, though I do find myself hoping that some of the more vast, and open areas, have some additional content added someday. Even if nothing more than some crates or destructible items, maybe some more enemies, npcs even if they are just side characters etc could go a good way into fleshing out the world as many times I did find myself going into a corner or far off area just to see there wasn't much to do. I am sure as the game fills in some of these areas will get repurposed for npc quests or the like. The story was fun so far, and I am curious to see more of this world, a lot of it feels familiar in a comforting way but there's enough new ideas or riffs on other fantasy tropes that I am looking forward to seeing more of as the game progresses on. Overall I am very satisfied with what I have seen in the first act, and there's been enough plot points to keep me invested for what's to come, especially towards the end of Act 1.

Combat:

The combat has a nice flow to it and is easy to understand. You have a good combo system at the base, enough different moves to try out, and a few different weapon styles thus far. I didn't really get to explore combat a lot yet, as most early enemies HP pools are a bit lower so just as you start ramping up a chain they're probably already dead, but the fundamentals are great. I'd like to see some of it tightened up as things go on, I did notice some enemies felt very light, in a way that made them hard to keep in place to keep comboes goin and there were moments of trying to chase down some enemies that had gotten away from me from a certain attack. I also hope to see as the gear upgrades the ability to combo together different styles of weapons. I could be mistaken, but it seemed like some of the basic combos from one weapon wouldn't carry over to the next, and the cycles start a new. I'd love to see a way to say attack a few times with sword, then carry that combo into the book or other weapons, perhaps even juggling them with the arrows similar to bayonetta's guns that help keep combos alive but I am not sure if the arrow idea is what they were made for. Overall a fun time, there's a good amount of animation to each weapon and the style points added to some flourishes and finishing moves keep things fun. I look forward to seeing how the players moveset goes and how new weapons and items will play into this system.

Bugs:

I was fortunate to not have too many bug on my end, most were more me trying to explore in places I shouldn't be that resulted in falling through the map or more minor things like Carter's hair going away when under the right circumstances. Overall I had no save issues myself, but even if I did the dev has been very on top of things when it comes to helping folks in the discord if any such issues arise. There were a few times were targeting enemies felt a bit off, and my bow had some moments of odd snapping to things that weren't there, but overall most bugs were fairly minor and either went away after a bit or were not present upon playing again.

Things I Hope To See Improved and Suggestions:

I am very satisfied with the game so far and am looking forward to more, but I hope to see some things touched upon as the development cycle continues. The main thing would be filling in the world a bit more. There were many times I wandered off the beaten path in hopes of a chest, item, secret or just anything to really not find much of value. I still very much enjoy the freedom to explore but I am hoping there will be something for the player to get out of wandering around in the future. An idea I had was to maybe have different colours and skins hidden around the world for customization. These could be a fun side quest and something collectors might enjoy, but those who don't wish to go off into the unknown could ignore and focus on the quest without feeling like they're missing out. I also hope to see combat tightened up as things go on, seeing more flow between weapons would be great and I hope that later enemies allow for greater expression of skillset, as right now it felt as long as you kept up on basic enemies they were easy to stunlock without much thought. There's a great base here and I hope to see the dev use these tools to create interesting encounters going forward (the mushroom bounce in particular I loved and would enjoy comboing certain styled enemies with it). Other than that there's not too much else I have to suggest at this moment, I have seen some of the future plans and discussions in the community and there's a lot of great ideas in the works.

Overall it's a fun and promising game that I hope continues to inspire others. I have seen great art and creative ideas come from this game, and the passion is clearly there. For a mainly solo dev project this game has thoroughly impressed me and I am excited to see what awaits us on our Quest. There are some issues that need worked out and things aren't always perfectly smooth at the time of writing this review but I've seen much more broken projects be release for much more money and not have the support i've seen given to this title, so I really can't complain for the time I have spent with this game, and the time I will spend in the future.

Fun idle game to kill time with. Has a bit of a learning curve as more menus and concepts get thrown at you but the humor and charm of the game keep me playing to see more.

Hell ♥♥♥♥♥♥ yeah brother I love coloring :)

Nice software that is great to unwind to. Helps learners see how shading and coloring works with pixel art and is generally a great way to relax. Highly suggest checking it out.
