Early Access Review
This game needs to be removed from the steam store.

As far as the player base is aware, this is abandonware. The game is a buggy mess, broken beyond playability. Any further updates are likely to be minimal 'fixes', that won't resolve the underlying fundamental problem that Take Two axed the entire team and as far as we are aware, ceased development.

Unless somehow acquired by another studio, this game will not release. Any 1.0 release version of this should not be purchased, the game is not developed, nor is it being developed.

Imagine having a winning formula handed to you, then sh*tting the bed so bad that the cult following you had now wants to make sure nobody ever buys your product. Disgusting behaviour by Take Two. Do not buy KSP 2, do not support Take Two. Refund when, Valve?

I love Arma 3, but I cannot recommend Arma 3.

It's because of the DLCs. It's crazy the way the game dangles everything in front of you, and then you go to use it and it goes 'sorry, you don't have the DLC.' Some of the DLC is worth it. Most of it is just paying for content that should have been in the base game.

Infuriating.

The trailer video must be showing the game on the easiest difficulty, which is basically just free flight. The glider shakes out of control if you go too fast, the physics are weird as hell and the flight dynamics just don't seem right. Refunded/10

UPDATE: I'm updating this review after an additional 900+ hours of gameplay and approximately another $300 spent. Because I am a sucker for this game. I want it to be good. Gaijin refuses to honour the implicit agreement between us that they will take steps to keep this game alive and enjoyable, and refuses to take steps to improve accessibility to new players. They refuse to take steps to improve their economy, and implement changes that harm the economy and therefore the player base. This has resulted in review bombing, and I want to assure anyone reading this review that I posted this review (I think) over 1 year ago, prior to the current controversy, and things have only gotten worse. My position remains that I cannot recommend this game to new players. And let's be clear, I have tried. I have tried to get my friends into this game. This is how it goes; They play some rank nothing planes, they have fun. They realise how long and slow the grind ahead of them is, and abandon the game OR buy a premium plane to give it a fair go. I've had friends drop $80-100 on this game on my recommenedation, and then abandon the game because they simply are not making any progress. Do better Gaijin.

I love this game. I hate how Gaijin milks this game for every single dollar they can. There is a base currency, silver lions, which you get from playing games. The return rate is very low, making the game somewhat of a grind.

You need lions to buy vehicles you unlock, then to buy the modifications for those vehicles as you unlock them. You also need these lions to pay repair bills on every vehicle you lose in each game. It IS possible to earn negative lions (that is, lose lions) if you play a game and die early with an expensive vehicle (B-29 springs to mind). You may find as you unlock vehicles you don't have enough lions to afford them, or the modifications that you need the make them competitive. You also need a large sum of lions if you want to start a squadron (as in, a guild/clan)

You can buy lions with the base premium currency, golden eagles. Golden eagles are also used to pay for membership, which is basically mandatory if you want to make any significant progress in unlocking vehicles and modifications. It's also used in boosting research, which we'll get to in a moment. The golden eagle economy is clearly set up to obscure their dollar value as much as possible. You also use these to buy premium vehicles (ranging between $10 to $100 AUD for a SINGLE vehicle), and the newly introduced battle pass ($26 AUD: Really Gaijin? Not raking in enough money? Needed a battle pass?)

There is also a warbond currency, used to purchase boosters and some vehicles. This one can be tediously unlocked by completing challenges, but at least you don't have to pay for it.

Now let's talk about research. All vehicles in the game fall into various nations technology trees. You unlock new vehicles by playing the appropriate game mode in that type of vehicle. Unless you're premium, expect to be grinding a LOT. Even with premium membership, you can be looking at completing hundreds of games to unlock your way to even some of the middle tier vehicles. You can boost research by spending golden eagles. The conversion rate is extremely low; here's an exampled:
The new US harrier costs 390k RP. 150 eagles gives ~5k research. As of this review, 150 eagles cost $1.60 AUD. To boost the new harrier from scratch will cost about $124 AUD. Bear in mind, you need to unlock all previous vehicles in that line of the technology tree. Including the harrier itself, this is a total of 1.66 million research points, equating to about $530 AUD. That's just to unlock the aircraft. Another 500k research points required to unlock all the modifications, about $160 if you boost. Now bear in mind, this is one high tier plane from one nation. There are 9 nations, each with aircraft and tank tech trees, most with naval and helicopter tech trees. If you want to operate a specific vehicle, and it's not in the earliest tiers, get ready for an epic grind or get out your wallet.

A really good game with multiple kills and bases destroyed may net you 10k RP without boosters (not even going to talk about that, but I swear sometimes it feels like wagers and boosters deliberately set you up to fail in matchmaking) but you're more likely to get 2k-6k RP. That's a lot of games. Some games where you're the first killed will likely net you more like 200-500 RP.

The thing is, all this money doesn't really show. I understand that a lot of time and labour goes into modelling these vehicles, and many have realistic cockpits. The servers, on the other hand, well... They're in a tragic state. Queue times can be sporadic and random, lag can cause queues to pop after you cancel them, sometimes you'll get into a game and the friend you lobbied with won't. You'll get nice lag spikes at crucial moments. I've had blown landings because of rubber banding pulling me into the ground out of a perfect approach. Matchmaking has been broken for as long as I can remember, often pitting you against vehicles tiers above you that can snipe you with missiles and long range shots that hit you before you even see the enemy.

I cannot recommend this game to new players. I've been playing this on and off for years, but the microtransaction economy has just gotten worse and worse. Good luck getting your friends into the game, because you can smell the extortion a mile away. I have not managed to get a single friend to take up war thunder. When they've realised they either need to pay $80+ to play with me in the fun tiers, or grind their way up from trucks and biplanes, they nope out of there so fast my head spins.

Then there is the gaijin marketplace, where you can trade other vehicles, kinds, sprays (oh yeah, you have to pay for decals, sprays, camo for your vehicles). This is done in gaijin dollars, another obfuscation of real world money.

Despite what this game says, it is NOT free to play. You can try, but I guarantee the frustration will inevitably lead to you boosting and spending money just to be able to use the vehicles you want to use. Then, unless you're playing aircraft realistic/simulator, you'll realise you need at least 3 vehicles around the same battle rating in order to actually participate. And thus the cycle begins anew. I would probably be categorised as a dolphin/whale for this game, and I'd say I've dropped at least $700-1000 AUD on this game. I still haven't reached the highest tier vehicles in any nation. Buyer beware.

Found the game to be mildly amusing until I realised it was another of those games which are basically a walking novel. Walk from place to place, story is essentially told in the form of dialogue. Lacklustre game, left me feeling unresolved and disappointed. Afraid I cannot recommend it.

I thought this game was early access when it was gifted to me by a friend, I didn't realise it was a full release. I'd say in this state it's not a worthwhile purchase, it's essentially a less polished version of 'Lost Castle'. The combat is janky, the controls can be unpredictable and the game itself is buggy and appears to be prone to disconnecting frequently in co-op.

My biggest complaint is that we bought this for the co-op, but frankly it's not enjoyable with the friendly-fire the way it is currently. The game is a hack and slash, so the screen can sometimes become a bit of a cluster-♥♥♥♥ sometimes, which 90% of the time lead to either my friend or me being bashed into the air over and over which then gets us both killed. Seriously, the friendly-fire-but-not-quite (you can hit each other with literally anything you do, spells, scrolls, attacks, but none of it does any damage, just knocks the other player around) is incredibly frustrating, and is the reason we stopped playing this game. I'm going to be trying to get a steam gift refund for my friend who gifted it to me. I might check on this game again in 6 months, but if you're considering getting it I'd advise getting Lost Castle instead, it's the exact same game but with a much better design.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind frustrating games. I loved the Dark Souls series, and I don't mind difficult and grindy rogue-likes. This game isn't frustrating because it's challenging, or because the enemies are too hard, or anything like that. It's frustrating as a result of broken mechanics and poor design choices.

Final thoughts;

I cannot recommend this game. It feels like a sloppy rip-off of Lost Castle, and is extremely frustrating (but not in the good way).

Bought the game with a friend to play together on short notice, realised the 'multiplayer' and 'coop' listing require you to grind through a single player (some people saying it takes up to 3 hours), immediately refunded. 9 minutes spent in game, approximately 6 of those spent alt tabbed trying to find out how to use multiplayer. I spent about the same time getting the refund as I did in this game.

Broforce

Pros:
-Really loud
-Lots of flashing bright colours
-BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO
-Really made me feel like I mixed in with my peers with whom I could share 'BRO' comments with.
-Lots of nice little squares stacked up, really appealed to my autism

Cons:
-Really loud. Everything is really loud. Especially when they yell 'BRO' (They yell 'bro' a lot)
-Buggy menus making it difficult to 'drop in and out' of games - Leaving one game caused my friend to freeze, and my menu to be constantly scrolling down and not allowing me to press exit.
-BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO REST IN PIECE BRO BRO BRO ABRA-BRO LINC-BRO BRO BRO CHUCK BRO-IS BRO BRO BRO
-Bullet hell game disguised as BRO. Death comes swift and sudden in a burst of blinding colours that leave you wondering what actually killed you
-Way too much going on at any one time, especially with 3 of us in the group.
-Speaking of 3 in the group, the camera is TERRIBLE. I would estimate 60% of our deaths were related to camera shenannigans of someone trying to progress without realising someone else was trapped in a cave somewhere.
-Extremely repetitive. It is literally running to the right in the same stale environment.

Overall
I dunno, pretty meh. I feel like almost all the positive reviews for this game are just people pandering the 'bro' ♥♥♥♥ for attention and giggles. I found it (both the review page and the game) to be pretty sub-par. Do not buy.

EDIT: I have 3 friends on this accounts friend list with this game, all of them have less than 3 hours in this game, as do many of the reviewers on this page. What does that tell you? Is the cost of this game worth 3 hours of not much? Your call.
