I, like just about everyone else, really wanted to like Calico. Don't get me wrong, it *is* cute. It's just not great. I'm always willing to pay up for an indie game, but I think this one is just a little too expensive for what it is. For every good thing it had, there was also some weird game breaking problem, or something that didn't look very good visually. I liked all the cat variety (and animal variety) in general, especially some really fun guys towards the end. Dialogue is repetitive, drawn out, and boring. I really wasn't into it. The characters all looked visually interesting, but were flat in terms of personality. I do like the level of customization you can achieve with your character and your cafe, but getting everything exactly how you want it takes a while, and I didn't find the game fun enough to warrant waiting for everything I like to come into existence. Controls are awkward and clunky at times. Getting anywhere takes a looong time unless you have a horse, but you don't get that until quite a while into the game. Having to slowly make my way up and down multiple, seemingly endless mountains got old after a while. Any large animal outside my house would stand by the window, break every limb, and spasm by the cafe. If I touched a fish in my pond, they would float high into the air and keep wiggling. I love the music, their vocalist is talented, and Meyoco did a great job on the album art. I hope this game updates. I think it is such a good base, but as it is now, it doesn't feel like a very complete game. I think if the developers take the feedback they are getting in this game, they can create a new game (or tidy up this game) into something truly fantastic. I can't recommend in its current state though.
