Overall
RUINER at its core has a strong combat system that's great at making you feel like a badass. But the slow-paced moments and non-gameplay sections can bog the game down a bit. I played through the main story on normal difficulty and only failed a hand full of times. The game took about 4.5 hours to complete for me, but there are other game modes to support should you feel that you want more.

I'd recommend this game, To those who like top-down action games, but those new to the genre might find this one a bit much to handle right off the bat.

Gameplay
The combat system reminds me a faster Transistor style. You have a few abilities that you can swap between or dump all your points into making the ones you like stronger, each with its own set of playstyles. I found myself to be using the different shield's mixed with CC related abilities. This being said I sort of found a loop with the abilities that make it a tad easier to deal with the AI at later levels.

The one thing that seems strange to me the orientation of movement. the camera lines you up in such a way that you feel pushing "W" would move you up. Instead, you're being moved to the top right. I personally never really got used to it as holding the dash button proved more useful than trying to do short dashes.

Visuals
The overall look of ruiner is good, but some variations from the "Big metal factory" would help deal with some of the art fatigue you can feel partway through. Never really felt like after beating an area that it was moving on, but instead, it was slightly different from the last. This being said though, there are a few nice set pieces that you can find along the way that brighten up the walk between zones.

Particles and effects were all well done. Can be a tad overwhelming at times, but who doesn't love explosions and blood splattered everywhere.

Audio
The SFX and soundtrack all feel like they belong to the world. You've got some dark/heavy music adding to the scene and the sounds effects during combat are strong and impactful where they should be. This is part of why the combat is so satisfying with the guns and especially using melee.
