I learned that a good king is rich or dead.
You need buildings so forget about those trees around your castle. They don't matter (they literally do nothing. They're cosmetic).
Monsters are hitting your buildings but don't jump at the chance to revive that fully equipped hero. It is costly and the next tax collection is in 30 seconds. Let him rest. He won't even buy anything when he comes back to life.
Hire new heroes. Although weak and poorly equipped, they will eagerly respond to a fistful of your gold.
Deny them a healer. Their gold will be spent on your red health potions and armor or they will end up in your graveyard.

Discard humanity, gain power. Pretty solid royalty simulator.
