Early Access Review
In short: Its a well crafted and detailed survival game, that has a steep learning curve.

Depending on what you're used to, the graphics can seem bad and the controls seem wonky but you'll find that both make sense for what they're trying to portray. Ultimately you're playing a world and you just follow one of the many stories within it.

The endgame at the moment is a bit lacking, however it still is fun to see your objectives and needs transform along with the world. As you get better, so do your attempts and the way you play the game transforms.

I can only recommend the game. The (modding)community is active, the devs are cool (though its been a while since the last build) and the game has huge replay potential.

Really creative, innovative gameplay elements. Not too difficult, especially for a roguelike, but still a challenge every run.

Now, ive read a couple of reviews here and it seems most are biased with expectations of what the game should have turned into starting from the alpha (which is a while back).

However the nature of this game's developer, progress is coming along slowly, which obviously leaves the game with negative reviews.

With this review i will attempt not to be biased by this, although having played alot in the alpha:

Cube World is an Open World RPG, which in its current nature is very simplistic.
It gets repetetive fairly quickly and might yield most players 20 hours worth of play time out of this game, those who did not play the alpha maybe more.
The game has not been fully explored with that much time invested, but i can imagine people getting bored at this point, as there is no End-Game stage.

However, things are not all that bad:
Cube World excels at the ability to casually play with or without friends at a moments notice, being able to just go for a run of Cube World, much like Roguelike games can, even with varying groups of friends.
To me it seemed more like a game to cool down to, similar to Stardew Valley, than an action packed RPG.
It delivered on a different sense of adventure, a refreshing change.
A change I very much enjoyed.

TL;DR:
Given the time it has taken until release, there really is room for disappointment,
however taken at face value this game still is pretty great.

Locomotives feel about as natural as a Fish attempting to walk.

Combat-balance targets really fast pacing, but controls are made for slower combat.

Would recommend having pesticide handy, as bugs seem to occur everywhere.

After all this time owning this game I finally came to review this one as well.
Not much to say here, though, as you probably already know what this game is about.
So instead, ill just describe how the game feels to me when being played.

I played this game alot and played them in "runs", essentially playing with friends to the last boss battle, then dropping the game again.
As a side note: I started playing waaaay back, when Waves werent a thing yet

Each time there was an update, i did a new run starting from scratch.
Each time I played, it was a mystery as what to expect.

And in each of those runs I found myself approaching the game in a completely different manner.
My perception of the world that is Terraria started shifting with every second i was exploring it.
The sense of exploration in terraria doesnt just go towards finding things you havent seen yet but doing things you havent done yet - and everything you can do here is unique to itself.
Your initial sense of needing to hoard everything never fades though.

Even the most useless weapon stat wise can be interesting enough in behaviour to have you at least not sell it... just in case.

Although i have beaten the final boss multiple times so far, my journey in terraria isnt over yet.
Also I discovered some mods that seemed promising.

Roughly 80 Hours in and Ive completed the main story line playing solo, having ignored most sidequests and not even managed to hunt all available monsters out there. Just to put the ammount of content in this game into perspective.

Ive enjoyed my journey though this game the whole way and still seem to find secluded spots i have not yet been to yet, although the world itself doesnt seem too large.
The difficulty playing this game solo also was surprisingly high but not impossible, once you knew how to properly prepare for a fight.
Having played it with Friends a few times i have to say that there is very high replay value, compared to any other RPG-like game, where i loose interest the instant im done with the main story. Although the way the multiplayer works left me a little disappointed, it worked just fine even with bad ISP.

So to anybody out there wondering whether to buy the game or not:
Check if your Pc matches the required specs, this game is more needy on the CPU side of things.
If that all checks out, go for it. The game is, was and probably will be great. Although i dont expect any major dlc content to be released.

Ive given this game a shot and I have to say that its a beautifully made game.
Easy to understand UI, wide variety of blocks to choose from and its free even!
If you like games like reassembly, robocraft an the like, try this game. I am sure you will like it.

Having posted my original review with when the Horizons DLC was released, I think an update is due.

I've originally not recommended buying E:D - that opinion has changed.

E:D Horizons was one of the most expensive DLCs I've seen on Steam where it had cost as much as the Title itself, however it did not deliver as much content as the main game.
Seeing as Frontier announced to drop all the remaining content of the Roadmap in DLCs, I could not recommend E:D to anyone.

Frontier has changed their strategy approach since: Most updates will be delivered via Seasonpass, however this does not affect all content. Among the Updates to E:D Horizons content, the base game has recieved some free updates as well. To be more accurate: Recently E:D Horizons was made part of he base game.

However a Seasonpass will still be expensive at launch.

That leaves the expected gameplay itself:

You are part of a vast galaxy with complex Politics, Economy and Conflicts going on. That means every action you take shapes the future of how E:D will progress in all of its shape and form.

Combat is fun and engaging, Trading and Mining have quite some depth to it and Exploration takes more Planning and Foresight as one would imagine.

And with that I am recommending E:D to anyone seeking a proper space game.

Although the concept is awsome and it really is fun, its unstable as ♥♥♥♥. i can only finish 2 games out of 5 because of how unstable this coding is. Making your own maps is virtually impossible, since this game tries to suicide at every chance it gets. At some point this game even caused my enitre PC to crash. And now with the recent DLC release: GET YOUR GAME RUNNING STABLE BEFORE RELEASING WAY TO EXPENSIVE DLCS. I would NOT recommend this game to anyone who wants to enjoy playing a RTS. There are many good ones out there and although this one might be good, it doesnt want to be played.

Early Access Review
Although its still early to write a review i am still going to make one.
Ive played this game alot, mostly before release on steam.
It has got alot in common with the Voxel,Sandbox,Openworld game Minecraft but it still is so different.
While most game-mechanics probably are subject to change, the concept of building your own spaceship likely will remain. Simply because to go and fight with your own creation is awsome.
The way this game is progressing and the way the Devs deal with the community is great.
I can only recommend this game to anyone who has a liking towards the Space and Sci-Fi genre.

Update:
I wrote a review a long time ago about this game and my opinion has only improved since then.
The devs are still working on this gem and do their best to improve on all sides, even after all this time.
Many features implemented were based on community feedback, such as improved build editors,
fleets, improved performance and balance in general.
I can only recommend you to buy this game and help the devs make something incredible.
