YET ANOTHER FLIP AND ANOTHER UPDATE

The Purchase Restrictions in place for 170+ Countries were implemented by Sony, not by as I had previously assumed Steam. This has not been reversed yet and the clause on the Store Page which mentions REQUIRING a PSN account has not been removed either. As much as it pains me I have to keep this negative until I'm certain Sony is not going to backtrack on what they said. Because so far it is only words, not actions and I feel like this is not yet over

AS OF MAY 6TH THE PLANS TO INTRODUCE ACCOUNT LINKING HAVE BEEN ABOLISHED. WHILE THIS IS A GREAT VICTORY FOR ALL HELLDIVERS AND SUPER EARTH, IT MUST NEVER BE FORGOTTEN WHAT WAS ABOUT TO TRANSPIRE. IF THIS GETS A SECOND CHANCE I WILL SWITCH BACK TO NEGATIVE. I'D LIKE TO THANK VALVE FOR ALSO STEPPING IN AND BLOCKING PURCHASES IN AFFECTED COUNTRIES, WHICH MIGHT HAVE HELPED CONVINCE SONY THAT THIS MAY BE A BAD IDEA.

MAY THIS GAME CONTINUE TO PROSPER AFTER THESE DARK TIMES, AS THE DEVS, PLAYERS AND SUPER-EARTH DESERVES!!!

DEMOCRACY!
FREEDOM!
LIBERTY!
FOR SUPER-EARTH!!!

THE SONY DEBACLE

While what I have said in my review still stands and more good things have also emerged, I cannot sit this one out.

In Addition to using an extremely intrusive anti-cheat on a PVE Game, Sony now plans to require all users to link their steam accounts to a PSN Account in Order to access Helldivers 2 going forward. The Playstation Network is notoriously unsecure, with multiple Data Breaches over the last Years with personal Info of Millions of Users stolen. This move is apparently done to "protect" players.
I'm sorry, but this in my eyes is simply an attempt to gain Access to more User Info for Advertising, Selling, etc.

This becomes even more apparent when you realise Sea of Thieves just launched on PS5, uniting Players from XBOX, PS5 and PC under one System, allowing Crossplay and not requiring this ridiculous link.

This Review will stay in it's current, disapproving state until Arrowhead (or more specifically) abandons these foolish plans that will surely give this promising game a beatdown and possibly the bullet.
I have hope, but I am no blind follower.

I will not make a PSN Account.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: POSITIVE

This game has what a good game should have. It feels satisfying to play, it looks good, it isn't overpriced, it's fun fun FUN solo, with friends and randoms, the over-the-top patriotic humor lands perfectly for me AND it has something incredibly rare but important:

A Developer Team that is transparent on what they are doing, why they are doing it, with rapid and consistent patches to quickly adress the biggest issues. They also seem very genuine in their efforts, with the CEO even advising on Twitter not to get the game yet, until they manage to increase capacity to guarantee a positive experience.

The Release was plagued by two things: Instability, which is still an issue but getting better and the other being quite literally suffering from success.
The Developers did not expect the game to receive the attention it has right now compared to the Prequel (HD1 6k peak, HD2 450k+ peak). This is where much of the negative reviews come from. They have increased the server capacity yesterday and I had no problem logging in during peak hours.
The other big source of criticism is the Anti-Cheat nProtect GameGuard, since it is a Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat which is very much an intrusion into privacy and a security liability. This Solution is quite Overkill for a pure PVE game and I hope (but do not expect) that this approach is revised. It is a valid dealbreaker for some and it would be for me if this game wasn't so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing at what it does. Plus I'm addicted.

In Conclusion: An amazing game with some issues, with a Team that actually gives a **** about what they put out and what their players experience, not just hellbent on profit. Buy Helldivers II, you will have a great time I promise.

This is the first semi-serious review I'm writing for a game on Steam and I do it because I want nothing more than this sort of behaviour to be rewarded and adapted by others. This game deserves to be seen, its Team to be praised and Democracy to be spread.

For Super-Earth! For Democracy! To Victory!
