If you cant download the content to be applied to the game.
DONT FREKKING STATE IT IS RELEASED
False advertisement, the content is still being made and released in 2016.
I may revise this information on later date, now you can only play the main game: earth and moon (+space miner phone minigame) Unless you bought a golden edition (like i did) its pointless to buy this yet. Its a good gift to give for some1 with basic version, just have to wait a bit.

3x3 tactics with fleet combat, yes you heard me, a fleet combat.
Your empire consists one fleet, three ships actually (don't be scared, you can add ships later) But to describe the game itself.

Where Master of Orion aimed to be galaxy micro manage game, where you manage planets, SM Starships aims to have more in the fleet battle part. Game aims on those starships, battle is more advanced, but in the cost of planet management. On MOO, it was important actually to manage your empire, develop planets, research technologies to get better weapons etch, In SS, you must just visit planets to get em to your side before enemy does, do a mission and gain they're loyalty. Technologies merely boost perceptually your weapons effectiveness and components boost time. Real upgrades are done within the ships themselves, upgrading lasers or hangar bays, gives better damage against enemies. Credits are gained through taxes from the planets.

Sid Mayer´s Starships aims to be MOO lite, with better battles and variety on what you must do on those battles, however the overall feeling is that this game would be better as Tablet game, sold for 9.95 bin.
If you are looking for strategy game, you might want to look somewhere else.

This game has serious Civilization syndrome effect, where "just one more round" gets multiplied to infinity.
You start this at 6 pm and suddenly realize? oh, the sun is getting up allready?

Civilisation micromanagement game, where your givven a task to reach some point in civilization, then to reach it, you must manage your economy, make trades with NPC or PC players. (yes, this is also a multiplayer game), war with other sections, or use diplomacy to gain favors.

Highly recommend yo to try it out.
