Its an ok ww2 casual shooter but they released it in a miserable state in early access and with that they have killed the game in its cradle, the game got some relive after leaving early access, but without any really good improvements other than skins, the game is dying slowly and its still dying (u can check it on steam db)

Scum is definitely an Early Access game with lots of progress to be made before it can be called a "complete game".

Now that I have got that out of the way let's talk about why I recommend this game to everyone, including those that might not be into the survival aspect.

TL;DR: SCUM is a game not just for your average survival player, the systems are complex and interesting, the environment is fun, and the devs are constant and listen to feedback. If you are on the fence because the game is in Early Access all signs point to jumping over that fence and joining us on the island for some fun.

1) Complex systems: The systems developed in SCUM have been put through the ringer by the devs, contacts the devs have made for accuracy, and also the players that have already purchased the game. These are not simple systems that were rushed through production, they are detailed. When shooting an arrow the game takes into account arrow rotation, shows arrow bounce/bend, and several other factors. The metabolism system is the most detailed that I've seen and you can make your character get fatter, thinner, etc. based off how well you "play the metabolism game".

If that sounds like it's too complex for you then no worries, you can mostly ignore the details once you have figured out(or looked up) the way to maintain or properly utilize the systems and just stick to a routine. The devs have put a ton of love into the game so it can be enjoyed by all sorts of fans.

2) Progress: Progress has never stopped. Sometimes it seems slow, sometimes you don't get the progress you want, but it is always constant. This is not a game that the devs are going to abandon. You can rest assured that the devs will give you some content updates periodically.

3) Base Building: The map and base building seems to compliment one another. Resources respawn at a rate that allows you to maintain a small outpost that is well hidden or building a impenetrable fortress out in the open for all to know your might. Oh, you can also reinforce buildings and make that your home if you like.

4) Feedback: The devs do listen. Sometimes they listen to a group you disagree with but they do listen and their changes and updates are based off first the direction they want to go and second the groups that have been making the most noise recently. The community has been clamoring for stability so that is what they have been working on the most with each update they release and things have been getting better. The community has been consistent about wanting more single player content so the devs have been working on that as well. Most recently a change the devs put in was widely disliked and they reversed it immediately. As long as the desires of the community don't oppose the vision these devs have then its very likely they will try to work it in.

There's much I can say both positive and negative about this game but overall it is a worthwhile purchase. If you're still on the fence after the above consider this(dated: 12/12/2019) after the winter sale on Steam the price will be increasing. Now is the time to buy to get the best possible deal, the devs will keep adding more great content as they move closer to full release and the price will more than likely increase at least a couple times along the way.

I have mixed feelings about The Forest, and I kind of feel like this game is all over the place...

Part 1:
For the majority of people this will be your experience:

+ Very visually pleasing
+ Great survival mechanics
+ The forest is lush, detailed, and overall just feels like a real environment which I love!
+ Great multiplayer support that allows you to easily setup a server and connect with friends.
+ There's cannibals that come out that creepily watch you and attack you.

So basically, most people will experience the game as "survival island" where you crash land on an island full of savages, you collect resources and build up a base. If thats what you are looking for this game is great for you.

Part 2
If you decide to explore more and experience the "story"

- The main story is that you lost your kid, the savages took him underground, and you have to find clues to try and save him.
- Underground there's a MASSIVE cave system that is dark, dangerous, and massively confusing
- The "clues" are incredibly vague and almost pointless. (its kind of like being in an episode of LOST)
- Its very easy to get killed in these caves, and if you do it may be difficult or even impossible to recover your gear.
- The cave system is very dark which is straining to me, and gave me a sense of claustrophobia.

Part 3
If you manage to map out the cave system and gear up to the point where you reach "the end"

+ The ending is very surprising, almost like plot twist in a crazy sci movie that throws everything upside down. Its a very lengthy ending too.
+ There's a pretty great end boss.
- Overall you may still be left scratching your head and wondering why you spent so much time and effort for such a ridiculous ending. Me and my girlfriend were just sitting there like "wtf did we just experience?" Its just a mix of disbelief and utter disappointment.

Overall... this is a mix of multiple genres and may not be great for everyone.

Do you also enjoy "light" horror with cannibals running and disturbing you while you build?

If you answer yes to all of these questions you may enjoy Part 1 of this game.

Pros:
You can depend on your own skills and not other players like in cs go. (If you play Solo Battle Royale ofc)
Leaderboards in waiting area so people can see how much swag you have
and how big a nerd you are when you are top 1.
Cool items n ♥♥♥♥ you can access by using real money to open cases, just like in every other game in this world.
Hackers tend to get banned pretty quick, neat.
As long you have a medkit you can run in the gas forever, i spent hours doing that cuz i never drive ♥♥♥♥ing cars in this game.

Cons:
F*ckin teamin ♥♥♥♥ everywhere.
Up hill shootin is ♥♥♥♥ af and u'll never hit anything. (Think they updated bullets and where they come out depending on where you are standing, sum complicated ♥♥♥♥..)
Cars are ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥, hit a ♥♥♥♥ing pebble in the forest and you'll do a 720 bounce between 13.5 trees IN THE AIR land on the back and die in the car explosion.
Shotgun super op close range, people will be hidin' in everything that has a door and blow ur ♥♥♥♥ up when you walk in.
Every player in this game will tell you that you have a bad aim when they kill you, litterally.

But all in all, this game is ♥♥♥♥ing great and i enjoy playing it.
PS. Get ready to get tilted since weird ♥♥♥♥ that doesn't make sence probably will happen to you a 1000 times before you understand.
PPS. Fashion is key in this game.

I started playing this game when I started to get depressed IRL.
I made a lot of friends and got to know that I was actually a likeable human being.
People seemed to be happy and excited to play with me.
I called them friends and they helped me simply by existing and being happy with me.
I grew confident, learnt I was actually a bit fun to talk with.
This game made me discover myself and I forever will be thankful for that.
The thing that makes this game what it is are the people, you'll meet a LOT of them it's upto you to choose who to keep playing with and who to forget and forgive.
The people i met through this game are some of my lifelong friends and I am lucky to have those friends.
I may not play this game everyday now but this game holds a dear and special place in my heart.
