I am by no means some sort of expert when it comes to games. However in my span of playing Terraria I really do believe that the game has evolved to be the best version of itself. I remember around the games release progression play was all I found myself doing mostly. The evolution of how they tweaked the game's systems overtime really impressed me. Using the communities creativity perhaps as an inspiration to further develop in-game systems such as the NPC housing system. Continuing to include variety of materials and biomes in order to bring the world to life.

The whole game over the course of its lifespan felt like it built on the core play in an informed way. Making the game gain new depths while making use of its playerbase's core understanding of the gameplay loop to not alienate or change the experience at it's core. The various updates in mechanics and game design make you want to make use of them. Like the overall vision intended them to be there all along. The whole game binds together as a single enriched experience because of this. The added content doesn't feel superfluous. It's not just content that over time was slapped on a pre-exsisting game. It was content that felt more meticulously crafted to enrich the overall experience.

TLDR; I like this game, I play it on laptop when I don't want my rump to hurt from desk chair. 8/10 will play for upwards of 1000 hours.
