I'll start off by saying this. While I'm glad I beat the pre alpha on ps4, and thought it had cool elements, I kind of was iffy about it still. I didn't buy it till somewhat recently, and I hadn't played it till like a week ago. The pre alpha was the level after the tutorial, and while the boss was nice, it didn't make me want to rush to play this game. Well, I can tell you that the game past that point is better, and it only gets better and better the further you get in the game.

I have officially beaten the game, plus I have beaten the dlc, and while I did have some co op help, I was quite capable of holding my own in the harder dlc. Overall I liked this game a lot more than Dark Souls 1 and 3, and honestly even more than Bloodborne.

I feel the combat is better in this game than it is in those games, and I give a ♥♥♥♥ a lot more about the characters and story in this than dark souls/bloodborne, plus there is more to grab onto without watching youtube video explanations. You'll really want to dig into the skill trees to do stuff, for example, iai on the katana is something that I abused and loved the hell out of since the 2nd level (not including dlc), and while I played with a few weapons, I stuck with the katana throughout. (and I even got half decent at parries to beat a certain boss)

Overall the game is long, super long, and although I did read a lot of bios and stuff in the game, and I did mess around a tad, I hadn't touched ng+, and I even left some dlc side missions untouched.

I was really absorbed by this game, in a way that a lot of people describe being absorbed by dark souls, albeit I am a story fan so I don't plan on ever touching the ng+ and ng++ that exist.

You'll get better, learn how to fight enemies, learn the nuances of the gameplay, and get tangible boosts with gear and level ups to the point that you feel a real progression. You'll see something that beat your ass in the past (say a boss), and even though it was probably buffed to match the needs of your level, you still drop it after improving as a player and a character.

I kind of like the fact that it is level based, it breaks up the gameplay nicely and gives nice definite points to stop playing for the night, it allows you to see a variety of levels, you can follow the actual battles of japan (and all around japan), etc etc. The mix of fantasy with REAL history is a nice touch in this game, and I bromanced with a lot of cool asf historical figures.

Overall a very good action game, with bosses that honestly only get better the further you get it, a cool story, epic ♥♥♥♥ happens, etc etc, get this game. Just make sure you don't get talked out of the game after the first non tutorial level, because the game gets better, just push past that, and there is a lot of quality content and tons of amazing bosses to fight (especially end game + the 3 dlc that come free with the pc version)

One of the highlights of gaming in 2020 for me, plan on getting nioh 2.
