tl;dr flawed game, great for UC fans, think World of Tanks but with mobile suits and peer to peer connection issues.

I wish I could give a mixed review, but I'll settle on recommending because the game is free to play.
This game shares a lot more in common with games like War Thunder and World of Tanks than most other Gundam games we've gotten in the West. The mobile suits move more like bipedal tanks and less like humans when compared to Gundam Evolution. Each mobile suit has their aim/turn sensitivities locked accordingly and this cannot be changed through settings (only by equipping parts). Headshots aren't nearly as valuable (in fact destroying enemy legs is far more important) and overall the gameplay is a lot slower than both most third person action games or shooters. This encourages players to plan their shots and routes of attack. The positives of this game are highlighted by rewarding gameplay, a fair amount of realism when compared to other titles in the Gundam franchise, a strong commitment to the source material, and an overall good community. I cannot stress the commitment to the source material enough though, if you are a UC fan they truly go the extra mile with the units. The cost system is basically built around the technology level of the mobile suit and the matches are set up with cost limits. For example, a Zaku II R2 is a 400pt mobile suit (and thus can sortie in 400-500pt missions) whereas the Unicorn is a 700pt mobile suit at the cap and thus can only sortie in the highest point sorties. Pretty much all of the mobile suits have their full equipment loadouts and you can change weapons around based on anime/manga/msv precedents. Also, you can paint your suits with very little restriction!

These positives are dampened by frustrating peer to peer connections with what seems to be very little if any geographical preference (this has improved dramatically since launch), gacha hell (though not quite p2w it does border it), very little communication from the devs outside of Japanese sources, a clunky menu system for MKB player, poor PC optimization and what seems to be an ineffective anti-cheat system. Most of the performance issues have gotten better since launch. Cheaters have become less prolific and the peer to peer matchmaking seems to have started favoring regional matchmaking to an extent. That said, the game is a gacha game. It is not quite P2W as there are many, many very competitive mobile suits you can buy with easily earnable currency in the lower point brackets. However, for the 700pt matches you basically *need* specific SR or SSR mobile suits to be viable. That said, these high cost matches aren't really recommended for newer players, are not even required and are generally played less than the lower ranges. In my personal opinion, these are honestly the least fun matches and I rarely play them and have never felt forced to play them.

The more neutral/subjective things to consider are this game's steep learning curve and the games' early PS4 level of graphics. This game requires a fair amount of video watching and reddit-reading to really understand. There is a combat triangle present; it is important but fairly often circumstantial (for example, general mobile suits counter raids, but squishier general machines can get absolutely shredded depending on the raid mobile suit). Stuns play a large role in the game and it does take a fair amount of practice to learn how to exploit them and avoid them.

Overall, for me and me alone, the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. For general audiences I definitely have to give it a mixed review. Good game for a hardcore UC Gundam fan, bad game for someone expecting Gundam Evolution's snappy gameplay, bad game for someone who dislikes gacha mechanics.
