Fantastically fun isometric vehicle game. Very entertaining writing in the vehicle descriptions and other lore/intel. Equip some 30mm AP Gatlings and tear through vehicles like they are tissue paper. Smash through buildings, annihilate entire squads of infantry with a single pull of the trigger, run over other vehicles with your massively heavy tank, you get the idea, read the flavor text between missions, repeat.

I really enjoy X4: Foundations. It is not quite a return to the days of X3, but it is much closer than X: Rebirth was. The menu system and interface is a bit of a cross between the old style of X3 and the new system that was in Rebirth but without the limitations that were present in Rebirth. Almost everything can be done through the map, including giving ship commands, initiating trades, and buying/selling ships. If you are so inclined you can stand on a station and run your entire fleet from there, or have a pilot fly you around in a scout to wherever you want to go. I did that for quite some time and had alot of fun micromanaging a trade fleet. Then I decided to buy a new fighter, send the pilot off, and hit the highways myself. Which is another interesting point; X4 brings together all the old methods of getting around such as the Jump Gates and SETA, with some from Rebirth such as the highways and superhighways. You even get access to the travel drives which were previously found only on capital ships in Rebirth. This travel drive allows you to go fast enough to travel comfortably without SETA, which adds to the immersion. SETA is still present, though the module must be crafted and it is incompatible with travel mode. It remains useful for letting your fleets and stations run automated tasks faster. There are of course some frustrating bugs as most X veterens have come to expect in the early days after launch. The one good thing about the X series is that Egosoft will give it their all to fix all the bugs they can. Rebirth had a game structure problem at its core, but X4 is solid in its mechanics, and just needs a few more coats of paint and perhaps some old school content rich DLCs to bring in the missing Boron and Split empires. I definately recommend X4: Foundations for any X fan, even if you were put off a little by X: Rebirth.
