Honestly? This game is quite fun, and if people didn't exist, I'd love this game.

Unfortunately they do.

I've played a ton of multiplayer games with toxic communities; League of Legends, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, etc. And this is BY FAR the worst community I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with in my life.

It's probably not a problem if you are good at this game, but unfortunately for me, I was not born with a gift to know how to play this game well immediately.

On a daily basis, I get called every slur under the sun. Just today, I joined Team Deathmatch, one of the most causal formats of the game and got called the N word with the hard R, told to kill myself, told I should go get ♥♥♥♥♥♥, called the R word, among other things I forgot because its all just a mind numbing blur at this point. This is my daily experience in Apex because I have the audacity to not be good and try to improve.

It's great knowing that my reports do nothing because they rank 400+s just keep coming back again and again.

I wouldn't wish this game on my worst enemy.

A truly fantastic mix between RPG and farming simulator! While this game is still in early access, it is very easy to see the potential this game has with the gameplay available so far. If you ever have heard of the Rune Factory Series, it is a lot like that series!

There is quite a bit to do in this game, Romance NPCs, Farm crops, raise animals, fish, fight monsters, and explore the ever expanding story of the game! And you can do all of this with your friends!

While you will likely encounter a few bugs on your journey, the devs have been very responsive on their discord and often fix the bugs by the next day.

If you are looking for a full experience, I would advise waiting until a few more patches before buying this game. If you are really in love with genre however, it is definitely worth the purchase!

Persona 5 Strikers is the 2nd Persona game to make it onto the Steam store and is the sequel to Persona 5. It brings with it a compelling story, engaging combat and amazing music. While technically a musou game, the game plays very much like a Persona game in most respects. The majority of this review compares the differences between this game and Persona 5 and Musou games to give you a good sense of what you are getting yourself into.

Whats Changed

Combat
Combat is by far the biggest difference between Persona 5 in this game. The Combat has changed from a Turn Based System to an Active Time System, though it executes this spectacularly. All of the iconic features of Persona are still present in this new combat system such as Weakness exploitation, All Out Attacks, and Stat/Ailment effects. You also initiate combat just like you would in any other Persona game, by attacking an enemy on the field which sends you into a real time battle on the map.

While this is labeled as a Musou game, the only thing it really has in common with them is the number of enemies present on the screen usually consisting of a large number of trash mobs and a few enemies that actually pose a threat. In addition, since it is Real Time, enemy attacks are now telegraphed and nearly all attacks are preventable by dodging out of the way or interrupting the enemy. While this might be a bit hard to execute in trash mob fights with tons of enemies, this really shines in boss fights where there is one major threat to focus on.

Overall, this new Combat System is intertwined excellently with the Persona series, making you wonder why they have never done this before.

Confidant System

The next big difference between this game and Persona 5 is the Confidant System, which was replaced with Bond Levels. Unfortunately, this new system is quite limited as a whole, as it comprises only of party member interaction and lacks any NPCs to interact with and gain confidant levels with. In addition, the time management system is all but gone as a result. However, this new system still allows you to gain the benefits of the Confidant System by giving you Bond Exp with interactions, which you can use to buy perks very similar to what you would gain from Confidants.

The Good

Story

The story is compelling as ever and while not quite as good as the main Persona series, still holds its own quite well, especially for a Musou game which typically don't have great stories.

Music

The Music remains a strong point of the game and the series as a whole, with a number of remixed pieces from Persona 5 as well as plenty of new additions.

The Bad

Crashes

In 50 hours of this game, I've had the game crash 5 times. Each of these crashes occurred at either entering or exiting a dungeon, so often not much progress was lost. However, since this game does not auto save, you have to be careful to save often to prevent losing significant progress.

Lack of Prequel Explanation

This game absolutely expects you to have played Persona 5 prior to playing this game, as there is little explanation of character's backstories or prior events. Often times, the game references major plot points of the previous game but does nothing to even mention what happened, leaving people who haven't played the previous game confused. While normally not too much of a problem, it is not even possible to play Persona 5 on Steam as of this review.

Summary

Overall, Persona 5 Strikers is an extremely strong spinoff of Persona 5 with compelling gameplay and story. However, it lacks some of the major features that some Persona fans love so much and also requires you to have played the first game in order to properly enjoy the story.
