To be fair, you have to be on a very high skill level to play Monster Hunter. The techniques employed are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of experimental physics most of the moves will go over a typical player's head. There’s also the hunter’s anihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Nietzsche's writings, for instance. The vets understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these moves, to realise that they’re not just lethal- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Monster Hunter truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in the catchphrase “So Tasty,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Buzzfeed's Tasty channel.
